That's the spirit. If everything else is fine, get it fixed and enjoy many more years of service. While that 5.3 is out, I'd go ahead do an oil pump and timing set. The o-rings fail between the pump and pick up tube.I'm down but not out. Interior wise and body wise I wouldn't be able to find a decent one here for under 8k.
Uh oh--this is where it all begins lol! While it's out........might as well do a cam, headers. barbell, trunion upgrade........You know, while it's out.....That's the spirit. I mean, why not. That's what I did, those upgrades and then some. Then may as well do the trans. I mean, while it's out.Uh oh--this is where it all begins lol! While it's out........might as well do a cam, headers. barbell, trunion upgrade........You know, while it's out.....

I'm going to probably put a built 5.3 with 385 horsepower in it from summit racing. That's the spirit. If everything else is fine, get it fixed and enjoy many more years of service. While that 5.3 is out, I'd go ahead do an oil pump and timing set. The o-rings fail between the pump and pick up tube.
Here's how to identify if they are Castech heads. Someone commented in another forum that there were multiple suppliers of the 706 heads, not sure if that's true or not. But this TSB should answer any question about it.Didn't Castech make a 706 head? I'd make sure it wasn't if I was you. I have that same cam with the beehive springs and I love it!
You could always remove--or ask him to do it-- a valve cover and look. That little battery insignia will be plain as day on the head. The motor is completely built so I don't know how to tell if they are the caltech or not. It says that the heads were reworked whatever that means.
