Old news but wanted to add it to this thread.

Took the Steel Hippo to Terramar Beach (Galveston Island, TX) last Thursday. Stopped in La Porte along the way to visit the grandparents. Spent two days on the beach:

Came home Sunday, via La Porte to visit more with the grands.

Wednesday, I took my daughter to New Orleans. For her birthday she wanted to see the Pixies and Franz Ferdinand concert. Nothing Tahoe related other than my safe parking spot. I was backed up to that wall with about an inch to spare:

Almost 1,000 miles in a week. No issues.

Did you visit Seawolf Park?

Didn't know anything about it! Just looked it up. My mom took the kids to ride the ferry and look for dolphins- they were right by there. Now I'm kinda disappointed that neither she or my stepdad ever mentioned it. I guess I'll have to make my own trip next time!

They may have never heard of it. The submarine Cavalla sank a Japanese aircraft carrier during WW2. I always try and visit a museum ship when we're traveling. Your USS Kidd is still on my bucket list. My great uncle was on the USS Hale in WW2 and she and the Kidd served in the same division and fought across the Pacific together.

Having family history in it makes it that much more meaningful. I visited during a third grade field trip. At that age, you don't really comprehend or appreciate it beyond "the big, cool guns". Holla when you're stopping in!

Had to do something.

Unloaded my ladder and the five ceiling fans I took down from Brian's house last weekend. Popped the hood to see if I could confirm my suspicions as to the cause of a minor exhaust leak. Yup- the same as last time. I couldn't tell if it was just one bolt or two again:

IMG_6880.JPG

Scanning everything else, I took note of the janky looking piece of mesh sleeve on the coolant hose:

IMG_6877.JPG

So I removed it and wrapped it fully in mesh sleeving. Used adhesive-lined heat shrink on the ends:

IMG_6878.JPG

Done:

IMG_6879.JPG

Of course, now, I'm seeing all the others I could wrap- heater hoses, steam vent hose, PCV inlet, PCV outlet (catch can circuit), brake booster hose...

I really don't feel like opening up the coolant system just for this so I'll just stick to the vacuum hoses. This was an easy 30-minute project to make me feel like I've accomplished something.

LOL Deja vu...

Posted this on August 14, 2021:

And this yesterday:

I always try to keep my "before" and "after" pics as comparable as possible (as I did in the above hose sleeve pics). But, two years apart? :D

@pwtr02ss keeps us supplied with the shower pics you send him and @randeez

Wait... What?! I just meant if Pawpaw wanted to see anything else pertaining to the cables and/or lugs, I could go out in the shop and snap some pics. I mentioned I hadn't showered yet cuz you pour sweat the second you step outside so going out to the shop was still an option.

Now that you've ratted out Tyler, I'm gonna have to revoke his unlimited premier access to my OF. We had an agreement.

Wait! Don't leave! Come back! That's not what... Oh, nevermind. You're probably safer hiding in the bushes, anyway.

Second alternator delivered yesterday. It was packed much more securely and made the trip from Illinois safe and sound. It spins true but I might swap on my original pulley cuz it's black. Might shave off the extra tabs on the housing, too. I'll have to assess the altered main stud location. I hope I can come up with something clean using the wire I already have. Otherwise, I'll have to make up a new one using a 90° terminal end:

Part number 13534128:

Had this blob of plastic ŝplooge that I first thought was a sloppy repair for a crack in the back cover:

View attachment 399457

It peeled off cleanly and there was no damage underneath. It looks like hot melt glue but it's firm like plastic:

Had too much else to do to go install it. Maybe I'll get to it this evening. I started a return for the first alternator last Friday but the seller hasn't responded yet. EBay will step in on 5/18 if I haven't heard from the seller.

any idea if there's a cap that goes over the main wire adapter part? I think mine will be easier to use it as is but it's pretty ugly not being hidden under a cover?

That would be on the vehicle itself. The charge cable has a rubber cover. I transferred this over to the 1/0 cable I made. The red is heat shrink tubing to secure the mesh wrap and the black rubber cap was stretched over that:

I wish I hadn't damaged that 90° adapter tower piece cuz it'd look a little better than how it is now. But, it'd just be an aesthetic and it's functionally fine as-is. If you end up not using yours, holla at ya boy.

I posted these in a PM to another member discussing exhaust stuff. Vids in chronological order. Wanted to copy/paste 'em here just cuz. I think it's the forum's 5-pic limit thing making the first five show as thumbnails-

First vid:

With 18" muffler:

A year later:

First start after cam and headers with open Y-pipe (no cats, untuned):

After warm-up (untuned):

Donuts with open Y-pipe (untuned):

Idling with open Y-pipe (yup- still untuned):

Tuned and through the 18" muffler:

With 40" of mufflers and cutout added:

Cutout testing:

Open cutout idle walkaround:

Open cutout, trip to Mexico:

Cold (32°) start after sitting for a couple weeks:

Warm idle after the cold start:

ahh yeah, I think I might have to clock my alt to fit like you did, plus I have two wires running to mine. so the tower would be easier to use but kinda ugly hanging out in the wind haha. they sell the towers for like 9$ if you need one.

I'm still working on seeing if it works. they sent me one with different damage than the pics had. this one the 2 pin plug top is broken off, so there's no tab for it to clip on. I'll take some pics and email them about it soon. other than that the thing looks brand new, super low miles.
