I noticed it looked like it was slipping so I stuck a tool up there and could spin it without the axle moving. I tried the side that's working and couldn't do that. So it's the "electronic brake control ring" that's the problem. I looked up the replacement procedure and , just like I thought, the axle has to come out.

Can that ring be tack welded into place? A TIG would be great since the heat can be better controlled and minimized. Someone with a TIG should be able to fix it in under 10 minutes, most of which would be cleaning the weld area.

I pulled the RR and LF wheels and finished up the painting today, then pulled the LR to troubleshoot the speed sensor issue. I was trying to spin the wheel with a DVM hooked up to the sensor leads to see whether it was generating an ac signal which is pretty damn hard with the driveline connected. I decided to look up into the hole where the sensor mounts to see if I could watch the reluctor spin. I noticed it looked like it was slipping so I stuck a tool up there and could spin it without the axle moving. I tried the side that's working and couldn't do that. So you're going to order the parts for a wilwood disc brake conversion while you have it apart?

I don't see how. It's behind the wheel bearing. The only access is through the small hole where the sensor mounts, I can see a tooth or 2 at a time and that hole is about 3/8" diameter. I don't understand what makes it spin with the axle or why it would be freewheeling. I guess when I see the part I'll understand. It looks like I need to pull the axle, seal and bearing and then the ring.

I'm looking into a NBS disc brake conversion since they have dual piston and an inch bigger rotors than the NNBS. Everything bolts on. I already have rotors and pads from The Beast. The calipers are old so I'll get new ones and then I just need the heavy backing plates. But no Wilwoods, I spent all my money on headlight conversions lol.

Now I need to get info on the rear end since it's narrowed but hopefully it's a stocker. It says Moser Engineering.

Is it a stock narrowed housing with moser axles? There should be some kind of gm/part numbers on the stock housing.

Ordered an axle seal, ABS ring, bearing and went ahead and ordered the calipers for the disc brake conversion. I have the slotted rotors that match the fronts I already put on and some pads that are almost new. I didn't buy the heavy backing plates because those are needed to mount the e-brake assembly and this truck has the e-brake delete mod. The calipers should mount directly to the axle. I bought what Rock Auto advertises as the "new design" ACDelco calipers. This conversion will only cost me $160.

I got my steering wheel emblem today and cheated it on. I didn't want to pull and disassemble the airbag to install it so I poked a hole in the center of the old one and stuck a pick in and pulled it off so I didn't damage the airbag by prying around the edges. Then I cut the tabs short and made sure it pushed all the way on, then pulled it off and added a big blob of black RTV silicone in the center and pushed it back on. I could feel it squish the silicone so I know it won't come off. Total time to repair was less than 10 minutes.
