Took it to Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX. a Route 66 museum in Santa Rosa, NM.

And ended up in Albuquerque, NM. for the night in front of a little 50's diner for dinner...

I think my Turquoise neon underglow matched the atmosphere quite well.

This was day 2 of my family's Great American Western Roadtrip.

Did you visit the nuclear science museum while there?

We're going to try and finish our western road trip this coming year. It was cut short and limited to Texas because of medical issues. Still trying to see Monument Valley!

Does the hood rod museum still have the yellow one on the pole?

No we did not, this is more of a Roadtrip to see God's beautiful creation, as opposed to man made stuff, so we are sticking to natural attractions. Monument Valley will be Wednesday!

A few pics from day 3 of my family's Great American Western Roadtrip...

I did that trip 60+ years ago as a kid, and then 50 years ago as a newly married couple. I've been back to individual places and National Parks a number of time since, including a combination 4 day rafting and camping trip down the Colorado River, twice. It is truly God's creation, and your photos are bring back MANY wonderful memories. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

I just filled up at my local Sunoco gas station here, and Sunoco has revised their formulations of gasolines, and their premium gasoline is now 94 octane. And the cost right now is $4.04 a gallon, only $0.05 a gallon more than 91 octane.

It's a good thing that other circumstances held me off on my tune revision, so I can at least now get tuned to the latest octane rating. Not sure that is going to make a heck of a difference, but...

Another Mi buddy. North south east or west Mi?
West West yall. yourself?
Try leaving some activated charcoal. Put a few packets--or however you find it--and let it sit a few days with the windows closed.
I knew a car wholesaler that used a few cans of coffee grounds(new)to get rid of cigarette smell. Person was a heavy smoker.

Charcoal was the first two nights. Then the ozone generator when they didn’t work. It’s almost gone…ish. Getting there anyway. I can actually smell it in the garage when I walk out there because I pulled the third row seats out and I’m guessing he’s sprayed the fabric portion on the back of the seats. It kind of looks like there’s an oil stain, although… That could beat anything at this point.

The trick that I was taught from a used car salesman back in the day was to use a really cheap shower curtain, like the $.99 ones and open two of them on a really hot day with the windows up leave the vehicle in the sun with those spread in the vehicle and you’ll get that new car smell. I was shocked by how well it worked.
Although, where some of you live in go pull a stunt like that and it might melt to the dash if you’re not careful or the seats if you don’t have tint on the back windows.
The other trick is using Irish spring soap as in the bar soap and a potato peeler just shave off simple pieces leave them on a plate/dish in each of the floorboards and compartments.

that's just 2 qt's low, add 2 your 1/3rd thru a oil change :fish_h4h:
I added six instead. The oil that came out of the filter looked like chocolate milk.
Tried “punching the ole’ bore” of the oil pan, just to get a feel for the sludge factor. There’s definitely some brown sugar with extra dark & dirty molasses in that pan.
Trans lines and oil coolant lines are shot at the rubber connections.

While at the car wash, I ran across this glitch in the matrix:
What would make the drivers side mirror not fold, while the passenger side did fold when the button was initially pressed.
However, when attempting extend the mirrors back, and to make matters even more confusing; while attempting to return the mirrors back to their fully extended position, this time only the driver’s side returns…the passenger side mirror doesn’t move.

Prior to the bath and findings…I also gave Alpha:

-an oil change (6 quarts Mobil 1 w/ M1-212A oil filter)

*oil was probably 2-3k miles over the mileage range I normally change it. Felt and smelled more like a “once a year or once every 7-10k miles” vs “every 3 months or 3k miles”.
I’ve never seen mud come out of an oil filter that looks like that. I left some oil oil in it. Not sure if I should have it tested, or wait until a quality oil and filter have been used. The plugs and wires all need to be replaced, along with ALL of the wire loom.

-deep cleaned the underside (aka triple cans of the big ole rattle cans of brake clean to blast off the engine oil, ATF, misc dirt and grease and oily yuck)

-New front wiper blades,

-new 160 amp alternator

-found the air filter boxes faster holes are broken, so it doesn’t seal properly

-cleaned the throttle body (it was nasty!)

-topped off all fluids, tires but not the fuel tank. Why? Well….because of your No! Not the charcoal canister and vent valve.

playing with my mirrors with the upgraded metal gears. it seems like there's a current limiter in the bcm for those motors somehow. if it takes to much power to open or close it, one can get stuck and out of sequence with the other. happens to my wife a lot because she can't seem to remember to fold or unfold before turning the truck off. that few extra volts seems to make a difference on mine.

usually I just go smack the mirror around and it seems to loosen up and move again.

Sounds like a good candidate for switching to Valvoline Restore & Protect for a while, to see how much gunk and sludge it'll remove.

Hoping I don’t jinx it, but I think 2026 is the year I get this engine done. I’ve been sitting on it long enough… I think I’ve saved up enough and came up with a good plan. Also swapping in the 4l80e and truetrac was always a precursor.

2002 6.0 LQ4 with an LSA blower. Glad I bought the LSA and ZL1 lid when I did! I want it to be reliable, so I’m not going TOO crazy. Was originally thinking 408 stroker, but I think keeping it 6.0 will be plenty (and it’ll be easier on my driveline). Mostly Texas Speed parts. Forged pistons/rods. Stock crank. I think the stock heads should work great for boost, especially since I’m not planning to spin it more than 6000 rpm. Probably their stage 2 blower cam. Keeping the nitrous but nothing too crazy - 150 shot max. I’ll probably be somewhere around 600-650 whp + nitrous. Should be a pretty fun street truck and surprise some people.

Need to organize the garage before I start tearing it down, then get the block off to the machine shop. Planning to start ordering everything in February/March.

it may be a sign of the gear inside stripping, typically the plastic part that fits on a metal rod cracks, then it starts to slip
fixing it takes about 30-45 minutes per side, easier to just replace the motor though if you can source a working used one, new ones or rebuilt ones are way overpriced.
I would not recommend the all metal replacement gear.
this will work fine if you determine it to be the problem, need one for each side

replacing the gear requires removing the motor and then opening it up, there is a spring in there and some additional gearing
then you just slap it all back together. (test before fully reassembling)
there are a few you tube video's of how to, if you use that gear I linked above then there are no additional modifications required. r&r and call it a day

TIL that the oil pressure sender is also the oil temperature sender.

Due to everyone saying it's a PITA, I was considering doing a remote hose if/when I have to replace the sender, but I probably won't do that now because that'd make the temperature reading completely useless.

OTOH, being an engineer, I might complicate the matter and do the remote sender for the oil pressure, then add a duplicate sensor and split the harness so that the ECU still gets the same signals and I can still see the oil temperature on my Torque Pro app. :rotflmao:

What we have an oil temp sensor? I thought it was just an ECM calculation..

.. I can't find oil temp circuit anywheres..

It's not a hard job to change the sender, as long as you have the right combo of extensions and U-joints, and the correct socket.

A mirror and flashlight, or cell phone camera, will help your brain understand the spatial arrangement and location of stuff, and then it's just a matter of laying on the engine for a minute or two.

Think of it as free plank practice.

Without information about stuff like viscosity (as in live viscosity at a given moment) vs. pump actual volume output (which can't be measured without an inline meter) and probably other factors, there's no way it could be calculated.

can't remember which but either the oil pressure sensor or oil level sensor is dual function for oil temp
