Those instructions make logical sense to me, though the factory dual battery setups I have seen in the PPV/SSV section are not wire as such.
The second battery ground goes straight to alternator bracket. I suspect GM didn't put too much thought/care into it.

Regarding the RVC sensor, I don't believe it to be used for anything other than keeping track of amps so it can maintain the battery down to minimal safe levels / minimal charge cycles? Or is there something else it helps with?

I agree with the instructions above for the most part, but I don't like the idea of moving the ground off the block to the alt bolt. pull the alt and bracket and clean both and add some no-ox for a good connection definitely, but moving it I don't like. the starter is the most high current drain on your truck and needs a solid ground to the block, but they're somehow more worried about the alt than the starter? nah.

I also don't like adding random ground wires all around cars, ground loops are a thing and a lot of sensors use as little as 5v and o2 0-1v. a few random volt offset isn't a great thing. it's much better to replace or upgrade the factory locations. I also have had very good luck with getting the cooling fan load off the factory wiring and one the alt lug. directly. once you remove that 30-50amps off the factory wiring you get less voltage drop on everything plus higher voltage to the fans, which DC motors usually like. it all works much better. depending on where it's located, I do sometimes move the fans ground to the block of its on the body, but I don't add an extra one, just move it and unload the factory block to frame.

back years and years ago when innovate wideband released the first affordable ish wideband o2 sensor kit. the LM-1. i got one and could never get it to read right. back then it needed to send 1v-2v into my obd1 software for logging. 1v being 10:1 and 2v being 20:1 airfuel is what the logging could understand. so it needed to be within a tenth or so but mainly it needed to be consistent, you could offset the math formula a few tenths either way. innovate message board was very active back then with guys having issues. the amount of tuning knowledge and theory lost when they purged
that old board still makes me sad. the engineers themselves would pop in and help give tips, 99% of the time is was bad grounds, so when I installed mine I went the other way, I added grounds. from motor to body, from body to ground point of the wideband controller and to the ecm case. I was young and thought it would be solid, it was not. it was all over the map. I finally posted pics of my install with questions as to why I got some weird reading. most people said it was a great install, one of the engineers finally posted up that it was a wreak and that auto manufacturs spend tons of time routing harnesses and ground points to avoid ground loops, (it's a big deal on circuit board layout too) went into a what ground loops are, which I never fully understood but I rewired everything as he said, and bam. it all is worked correctly. that wiring was to simple run all ground to the same oem ground point. on that car it was back of the head. pulled it, cleaned it up, put ring terminals on all the ground wires and run them to one oem point. seemed so simple after he said it.

I believe the sensor is very useful for the charging routine, it needs to measure the starting current draw and time. then put that much back in to the battery relatively quickly to keep a lead acid happy. after that the alt is running and it can just go off voltage and calculate Temps to maintain them.

just my 2 cents on how I try to wire things.

I dunno, pretty straight forward to me…..i looked up how a ppv/ssv dual battery set up was on a gmt900, bought the factory cables off amazon, clipped them in to where the factory ran them, 2nd batt pos down across the front of the block to starter, 2nd battery neg to alt frame, dropped in two new batteries, hooked my plow up and haven’t touched them since 2016…..oh wait im sorry i did touch the pos cable, I replaced the starter last summer, bolted it all back up and haven’t touched it since then.

went to the junkyard and grabbed a couple spare parts, 2 front oem impact sensors, oem blower motor and 4 rear seat belt holder clips I always manage to break those somehow
haven't seen any reports of the 10-14 impact sensors going bad but figure it's just a matter of time. Blower motor I have already had to replace once.

I'm jealous. All our walk in junkyards and U-Pull its are drying up and disappearing here. Being replaced by multi million dollar condos and businesses. Sickening.

we don't have many local just a couple that will let you pull your own parts, tons of gmt800's out there but the 900's are pretty sparse there is only 3 of them out there right now, one came in on the 14th which was why I went out there but it was mostly stripped already, it did still have the cluster and a rear bench seat, drive train-gone.
next time I go I will probably grab a couple window motors to throw in a box the aftermarket motors are garbage

most are chains these days. I think there's a website you can search what vehicles are at what yard before you go?

Ya the west coast chain of picknpull has a website you can check, shows year make model the date it was dropped and a picture, I check it like once a week to see what's came in. I used to go hit the yards and get the sought after parts and sell them on eBay but not really worth it to me anymore

I gotta admit. I'm the guy that means to go to the yard, but checks ebay and end up just buying it there haha.

I get the feeling the shipping and feed back would be hard to make much money off

depends on the part I used to get 500-800 for a f-body dash, $200 for a trans-am cluster panel cover, $500 for a center console, but all those cars are long gone now.
I got so I could pull a dash out in like 15-20 minutes, easy money because the yard would only charge like $40-50 for a dash
now i have kids and tons of stuff to sell so no time to go really, just once in a while

quick search on ebay shows they still go for around the same price, but the cars are not coming in the yards anymore
and like the gmt900's there are re-pop "caps" etc out there as well

you do that annually?

wow I have only done one power steering flush in my life to one car ever. huh
ya,I flush transmission, brake, power steering, coolant annualy, front & rear diiff, transfer case every 2 years
brake fluid is the worst it gets burnt pretty good especially the way I drive

brake fluid and power steering fluid are both pretty clear liquids, the first fluid to come out of the power steering reservoir was pretty dark but lightens up as I get the old fluid flushed out. when I bought at 5 years old it had obviously never been done and took about a gallon to get clear fluid to come out

I feel like a terrible maintenance mechanic lol.

I do tranny and brakes, switch to dot 4 in anything I'm going to drive hard. but besides my c6 that gets the power steering worked very hard since adding the angle kit. byond that, I never thought it was a thing haha.

Got the Cold Case out today and the new Denso radiator and new K5L fans installed. The cold case was leaking from an end tank seam. Pretty bad, too. So much so, it appears it was getting slung forward against the AC condenser by the fans. POS. Lesson learned.

new Denso radiator
Happy with that Denso unit #2219514? Seems that it has both inputs for the oil + trans cooler lines on the sides of it.

I was looking at it over the weekend. Want to revamp the entire cooling system next month (radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, etc.) before summer road trip season lol.
