I put in 6, but check it on the dipstick either later that day or the next day and add if necessary. I've never had to add any more. That extra 1/10th of a quart of oil capacity the 1" longer filter adds doesn't really make a difference in the pan.

I actually fill the new filter with oil before installing it, just to lessen the time the engine is running with no oil pressure on first startup
Awesome. Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, I always fill the filter up as well. That's how dad taught me

If it is the AC pump, would that mean it's going bad? Bad bearings? Internals? I guess just having the HVAC switched off wouldn't work for the test?

I haven't heard this noise before
Just like Wes pointed out, if it is the a/c going bad and already making gremlin noises from within, it won’t be long before you will hear what he described. Being very careful you can put a scope on the a/c and listen for grinding sounds.
With the vehicle off, grab ahold of the a/c clutch and check to see if it’s spinning freely.

I learned that from my grandpa many years ago. Works great.

Changed the oil. It has been around 3k miles since the refresh. I did an initial oil change after firing It up and driving it for 10-15 miles. The oil looked good.

Whats the part number for the tall filter you guys are using? 08 5.3 and how much capacity does it add? I run ac deco pf48 on it now. Mobil 1 5/30. Will change over to 10/30 on the next change.

I'm a few days behind, but trying to catch up.

WL10255XP is the one I went with last. It's a hair smaller than the 57045, but I got it because of the higher bypass pressure.

57045-
Height: 4.828"
OD: 2.939"
Bypass: 12-15 PSI

10255-
Height: 4.474"
OD: 2.921"
Bypass: 22 PSI

I fill up the filter. Let it soak in, top it off again, soak, etc. I also pour some on top and press the silicone flap down at various spots through the holes with a tiny Torx driver to get oil on that side of the media faster. This ensures 100% saturation and passes more time to let the pan drain.

Overachiever....

So, that's convenient. That's what the Denali takes so I have stock of those:)

That's what I was thinking, I'm hoping it's the cover.
I'm going to get under it tomorrow to clean it off and to evaluate the situation.

Now that I said something it'll be the pinion.

I cleaned up the entire rear end, front and back. What I see is spatter up front and a lot of build up out back.
So, I'll be doing both.

As for the taller filter, I used AC Delco PF63. I also fill it and let it sit, top off a couple of times and let it sit before installing.
Oh and 6 quarts here to.
