Ehh. So much for waiting. Riveting done. Cerakote done on the plastic, ready for install tomorrow. I bought new LED license plate lights to go along with everything.

It’s all done- bumper and maintainer. I like it. Paint came out great, trim looks awesome, wiring is clean. This will be so much easier this winter.

Money shot. Now I need to remove the cowl and hood trim and remove the white specks of wax that spun off the buffer and landed there months ago. I have tried everything and the only thing that takes them off is scotchbright. I want to Cerakote them so hopefully they’re protected. The plastic on the rear bumper had the same specs and it looks awesome now after I used that process. The stupid specks sorta bonded themselves to the plastic.

Have you tried a stiff brush? The type that you'd buy in HF in a package of 3--comes with nylon, brass and steel. The nylon brush might be stiff enough to get it off.

I don’t think it would work, I have to scrub quite a bit with the scotchbrite in order to get it off. Alcohol doesn’t touch it but I just tried mineral spirits and it removes some so it cuts down on the scotchbrite time. The stuff is stubborn. Weird thing is, as long as a fluid is on it- alcohol, water, mineral spirits etc it’s invisible but as soon as it dries bam they’re back.

No. It just dulls it. I used it on the rear bumper pieces before I used the Cerakote on them. Here’s a hood piece after scotchbrite and the bumper part after scotchbrite and Cerakote.

Ok, that makes sense. There's different scotch brite pads--green, red, white etc. I've never used a fine scotch brite, I usually use red or green which are pretty course.

I thought about when they were off and decided not to but yeah now I think so. See the white specs on the DS cowl in the little vent area? Grrrr. I’ll fix that without pulling it off. I guess I didn’t turn it around and inspect very well. I’ll have to wait until I’m using the Cerakote on something else so I don’t waste an entire wipe for that tiny area. I still need to do the side window trim so I’ll do it then.

I’m doing the Cerakote on the center of the grill and just decided to repaint it because it’s chipped so I ordered more paint and clear. It’s chrome under the paint too so now I need to decide on whether to sand and paint it or buy another paintable grill. Either way I needed to get the paint order in, last time it took 6 weeks. I can remove the painted part from the main part which is the honeycomb part, I’ve used a heat gun on tabs like this before and bent them straight, then bent them back during reassembly when I was working on something else. That will make it easier to sand.

I bought some Griots Garage Speed Shine awhile back and tried it out today. The truck hasn’t been driven or washed for 2 weeks and had a good dust layer on it. Normally I would have done a normal wash but decided to try this. I was surprised that it worked so good. I used one of their PFM cloths. It took about 10 minutes to do the whole exterior and came out glowing. It can be used on interiors and glass too.
