for whatever it is worth I have a pioneer nex (wireless) android auto/dvd/nav, I used the iDatalink maestro-rr.
the NEX has eq, front/rear/sub crossover hi-pass/lo-pass. dual zone.
the maestro-rr retains the bose DSP and front/rear fade, rse, steering wheel controls. (has other expansion capabilities)
the rse all works, can have all 3 screens going on the same thing or have the rear separate
disabled the bose ANC, added 2 jl audio sub and amp
everything has worked flawless for years
if the ON-x app works with Android auto then it would work on the NEX
the nex and maestro also gives me OBDii support with various gauges, tpms, etc
the nex onboard nav is not user friendly (like almost all factory nav) but it would work in a pinch
the kenwood wireless units have garmin built in so any onboard nav should be more user friendly.
If I am traveling I just use a dedicated garmin gps anyway because cell signals do not exist in the mountains here if you go anywhere off the beaten path.
I have the garmin tread for off-road, it has basically every map you can think of or you can add it.
