Looking for a favor from anyone who lives life on the edge with no TPMS.

I’m trying to figure out if your truck will go into learn mode even if you have no sensors in your wheels.

I always bring my express van drama here. I’m fairly certain it falls in the NNBS category (2008 express NNBS style steering wheel and cluster).

I bought the van in 2019, the tpms system was working. I replaced the battery with an optima battery shortly after and the systems all reset. No readings from the TPMS system. Tried to relearn them and my van just would not go into learn mode. Searched the web with no luck. I let it go for months. In like 2020 I bought 4 new tires and I asked them if they could figure out why my sensors wouldn’t work. They called me and told me it would be like $500+ to even diagnose so I told them to just rip all the sensors out and install regular valve stems because 1 of the sensors was leaking anyway. I’ve chalked it up since then.

Fast foward to now. I’m exploring what I can do to try fix the issues. The information I’m receiving from other sites is that possibly the vehicle won’t even enter learn mode if no sensors are nearby/active. But no solid answers just speculation. I have my doubts because I have a hard time believing all 4 sensors went bad at the same time when I changed my battery in 2019.

If anyone who doesn’t have sensors installed could do me a solid and let me know if your truck will enter learn mode or just doesn’t respond when you try it. I’d greatly appreciate it.

When i did mine, i activated the tpms learn via a tech2, then i used a cheap little yellow activator wand thing on the sensors following the instructions i found talking about what wheel to start with.

The wand thingy i guess wakes the sensor up to check condititon of some basic shit, then the tahoe can read.

I get a honk, then move to the next sensor following the manual.

This is what i have for my 09.
It also worked for my wifes 2011

Edit: no judge here, hell i talk about my pos jeep project here (aka STD jeep).

And i might have mis read, going w/o tpms, or your trying to learn a new set?

My tech 2 came in last night. I’m gonna try to program them with that or find out if my receiver is bad. If I need to replace the receiver, I need the tech 2 anyway to program it to my van.

Right now I have no sensors installed in the wheels. I’ve been going on like 3 years with this issue and last time I bought tires, a valve stem was leaking so I had them put 4 regular valve stems in. I did however just order 4 sensors from rock auto because I want to get the situation taken care of.

I’m just hella confused because the sensors 100% worked when I bought the van. But I can’t get the van to go into learn mode. So I’m not sure when this issue started

I also have that cheap wand thing you’re talking about. I use it on my Yukon. It just activates the sensor so you don’t have to sit there and air the sensor down then back up.

Played with my tech2 for about an hour. I guess I have to assume the remote receiver module went bad.

When I go into the module and read the DTC codes I get a U3FFF with no explanation. Google doesn’t show much on U3FFF. If I try to clear it , it comes back unsuccessful. If I try to program the sensors it tells me to set the tire settings first. So I go into tire settings. Set the load range and desired PSI settings then it loses connection with vehicle every time I try to set it. I can however read the sensors that are currently programmed into the module. Can’t really do much else with it.

I can confirm the tech 2 will communicate with the rest of the vehicle though. I was able to do a few other things but once I mess with the remote receiver it starts acting up.

Thanks. I’m about to just order one. I’m already this invested, No giving up now. They’re a little under $100.
