I ordered the master switch from EBay, as “new other “- they said it was open box unused. $89 shipped as opposed to about twice that for new. It came Amazon Prime in 2 days...wtf? Anyway it’s new in a sealed plastic GM bag in a new sealed box. Or it was...now it’s installed in the new bezel.

I read on here if it's brand new and it has power fold mirrors, it needs to be programmed. True?

IDK but I do know since I’m going from LT doors to LTZ doors the module needs to be programmed. So I’m gonna have to figure out how.

So I’m pretty sure I have a bad clockspring. First I lost my horn. And dome lights don’t come on with the doors but that might be unrelated. Now a few days ago I got an air bag malfunction, B0012 symptom 4 which is an open circuit. My alldatadiy said to troubleshoot using the Kent Moore J-38715A SRS load tool which I found on eBay for like $50. But guess what- it needs adapters to hook the stupid cables up with, and there’s like 20-30 adapters and I have no idea which ones I need and I’m not buying a whole set for another $50-75. So it’s worthless to me. But I’m thinking this is all pointing to the clockspring, maybe even the dome lights who knows. The Tech2 just helped me somewhat but all the diagnostics require either specialized tools or more patience than I have right now so I’m gonna use the shotgun approach lol. Clockspring ordered.

Front passenger door panel reassembled. I have the bolt hole cover ordered since it didn’t come with one. Then there’s this stupid red reflector thing that I have no idea why it’s there. Reminds me of my Harleys- they had reflectors everywhere. First things that I removed. I figured they put it there so I could wrap it and have a nice brushed metal accent on the doors to match the rest of the brushed bits.
I like the wrapped look.

Looks great. That reflector is there to keep passersby from clipping off your open door in the dark.

Me too. I wasn’t sure how it would look until I did it but I think it looks damn good.
I do, too. Find a small image of a BEAST to put on it.
EDIT: Oops, meant a MACHINE! Maybe not such a great idea now.... LOL

I see that, still mostly red with a little white eye. It would look better all white.
Thanks for that info, I didn't think to look for that. Now I have to decide if I want to add them. IMO, they're not that nice looking. They would look way better all white instead of red and white and I don't see a way to make them all white. Maybe something custom would look better. I could even do something with RGB LED's and tie them in with the demon eyes and grill lights so they all change color at the same time but likely just a white LED. I would leave them wrapped and mount something directly through the small panel, hopefully flush with the outside. Better than an Esky!
when you want to program the switch just go to tdsweb, purchase the $40 subscription, this will activate your vin for 2 years of unlimited programming.
then before you start be sure everything is plugged in and ready to go
get your laptop out and the tech2 and be sure all the cables are good-n-tight and position everything so you don't have to move it.
for good measure plug in a 12v dc supply to the tech2 and plug that into a wall socket so it doesn't have to depend on the car battery for power.
plug in your laptop power supply to the wall so it doesn't depend on the battery either.
then open up tdsweb on your laptop, run the java software through your web browser from tdsweb.
it will install about 4 or 5 small java programs/updates, then you can click ok and proceed
at the main menu it will give you some choices such as "tech2 passthru" this is what you will want to select.
follow the instructions to the T
it will tell you to turn on your tech2, be sure the ignition key is set to run (engine off)
then you will be instructed to read the bcm calibrations (from the tech2) and then return to the tds web app on the laptop
from there you will be able to navigate the tds web app to update the calibrations you want, there may be numerous choices but you should be able to determine what is what via the app, it will have check boxes and multiple choices and descriptions, most of them are defined by rpo codes but should have some type of definition, once you have all the check boxes you want selected it will let you proceed.
then it will tell you programming can take anywhere from 10 minutes to more than a hour (this is why you want everything plugged into wall power)
then just let it do it's thing, as it goes along it will beep and give a dotted line as it progresses.
when it's finished it will say it's competed and you can just leave it and cycle the key and test your mirror switch.
if all goes well your done.
