also started a water pump job on a 05 chevy work truck, fan wont cooperate with hammer blows to the wrench trick, so ill have to get the rental tool to hold the pulley in place. but thats a problem for tomorrow.![]()
sadly ive dealt with them fans before, some times the belt grips tighter and it breaks free, some times you need the pulley holding tool. whats wrong with them 4 bolts they used use? lol truck needs a new belt too. its all cracked up bad.Remember the clutch fan threads are right-hand thread, so counter-clockwise from the front to remove. You probably knew that already, but....
A term I used ( to help remember), when changing wheels on a pitstop using a single big wheel nut on EITHER SIDE of a race car:Remember the clutch fan threads are right-hand thread, so counter-clockwise from the front to remove. You probably knew that already, but....

Not exactly radio controlled…..kind of like driving a rc car towards yourself, if in your brain your not in the car its gonna crash lol
the brain is the radio part lol eye/ hand, opps lolNot exactly radio controlled…..![]()
Yup….. back in the day, at the driving school, “ high performance” driving isn’t about going fast….the brain is the radio part lol eye/ hand, opps lol
not the best way to do it but its easy to use a c clamp to hold it tightgot that water pump finished up today, 3 parts stores not one had the right tool to hold the damn pulley, but in a pinch a 3 ft pipe wrench will hold it tight as a clams ass in a rain storm lol
i tried that method too. also didnt work. that 3 ft pipe wrench worked as good as the tool. or a air hammer that i did not have.not the best way to do it but its easy to use a c clamp to hold it tight
You just replaced a boot instead of the whole axle? Did you get a boot kit?Had torn boots on upper balljoints that only have like 30k miles on them. This basically turned into a front end rebuild. I had to put upper control arms on it about 30k ago and did the idler arm at that time as it was a bit sloppy. Other than that the suspension has 190k on it. Figured I would refresh what I could while I was in there.
Also found the pass cv axle just started slinging grease so replaced boots on that.
Also pass side inner pad/rotor had some wonky wear pattern.
Parts list.
Lower balljoints
Upper balljoints
Inner/outer tiered
Pads and rotors all 4 corners
Sway bar end links
Repalce boots on pass side cv axle.
Yeah I put new boots on it. I try and reuse oem axles as much as possible. Rockauto has inner and outer boot kits. You get the boot, clamps and grease. You just replaced a boot instead of the whole axle? Did you get a boot kit?
