I haven't done an intake gasket on a Vortec 5.7 in quite a while. What gasket set is the best? I know they've had improvements through the years and I've always had the best luck with Fel-Pro but I see Fel-Pro even lists a couple of different gasket kits. What's been your experience and what kit do you recommend?

You’d want the ones with the metal backing plate. I’ve always used this one since it comes with new manifold bolts:

It's interesting they recommend replacing the bolts. You wouldn't think as low of a torque value as is used on those bolts that you'd need to replace them.

Stick with Fel-Pro sets and do the bolts. When bolts are tightened, they stretch, simple as that. Make sure to tap threads and clean where new bolts will thread in to.

The first post I made on this forum was when I was about to tackle the job you are getting into. See attached below. Maybe you might find something in there that helps you out. Good luck.

I appreciate the info, mostly wondered about any improved intake gaskets. I was a dealer tech when these came out new, had the pleasure of doing them under warranty back then. I have my Snap-On brick for the distributor setting also.

The Felpro kit I used were the much improved kit over the OEM GM ones. It came with all the rubber/metal reinforced lower intake gaskets, as well as upper intake and fuel line O-rings, and valve covers x2. The Felpro intake bolts had blue locktite pre applied. Like @OR VietVet said, one thing I would have done differently, is thread chase all the threaded inserts I was bolting up to.
