I got that cam in my Tahoe. Wish I would have gotten a higher stall torque converter becuz the truck will lunge at times at idle....I like the way it runs, however....I generally just put it in neutral at a stoplight.....

Yes. Balancer and water pump removed, you can then remove the front cover. ("While you are in there" comes up of course. Oil pump, timing chain set, tensioner. Camshaft sensor. VVT solenoid and actuator for VVT engines)
Will 2008 have vvt solenoid and actuator on the timing cover?

Won't have VVT until 2010 model year, but some 2008 5.3's had the AFM components.

So my 08 Yukon SLT has AFM turned off from GM? I know it has the components because I've seen them when the head was off. Currently using a Range plug in to keep it from activating. I'm pretty sure I saw it cycling from V4 to V8 on the DIC but gotta verify.

Stock on the Denali and 51 PU, ARP on the vette, and no VVT.
I was absolutely terrified when re-installing the balancer that I was going to strip out the crankshaft. First and only one I've done so far.

Hopefully you're not turning a bolt to install it ...you need the threaded stud, with turning the nut. Grease on a thrust washer, or use the bearing that came with it. Usually go on without a problem.

he was probably taking about tightening the oem bolt. it's kinda crazy how tight that bolt should be.

it's easily twice as tight as the arp nut. with sealer on the threads. and a under bolt bolt head sealer/friction surface.

Lol ... I have a 48 inch, 3/4 drive breaker bar for the final angle torque. Absolutely terrifying that it's going to snap. I swore next time I'll just get the ARP bolt and torque it down the old fashioned way.

It depends if the front crankshaft seal has worn a groove in it. It's sort of a judgment call. If you can't feel the groove with your fingernail, I have polished them up with 2000 grit while turning on a metal lathe at high speed. But if it's got over 150,000 miles on it.... I usually just pick up a replacement before I get started. (And some of those have looked pretty good.) New ones are around $100
