yup, got the HT383E in mine, for the most part it was a direct replacement. REQUIRED a tune though to really to it to come to life. at the tires it puts down cloe to 400ft/lbs of torque. I am very pleased with the motor. the tranny will go and I will build it up when it does

well my brother lives in modesto so im gonna go out there with a buddy and hopefully drive home with a vortec. BUT I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION... How much work would it take for me to make a 94 lt1 complete motor go in. I got a guy locally that has one sweet ass 94 lt1 and its complete. I mean everything...computer, harnesses hes got it all. What would be involved?

The LT1 should bolt up to the trans just fine and fit right in place of the old engine and work as long as you have the harness and computer for it...you may have to change some coolant/oil cooler fittings but I'm not sure. You'd also need a standalone 4l60e tranny controller if the lt1 computer isn't set up to do it.

To tell you the truth man, it's a whole lot more work than just putting in a new 95-99 vortec motor.

How is the gas milage with that 383 vs the 350 you had in before the swap?

From what i have heard it takes very little to make a LT1 swap work, esp if the doner car has everything you need.I have seen a few S-10's and S-10 Blazers with LT1's in them.Putting one in your Tahoe should be a breeze.

I have had 5 Caprices with the LT1 motors and really liked them. With the money you save you could beef up your tranny and really make things fun.

You could also get a Corvette engine dress kit for that LT1.Think of the looks on peoples faces when they pop the hood on your Tahoe and see a motor that ses Corvette on it lol.

Well I think the LT1 will work without too much hassle. Plus it has more HP than the vortec. Plus the one Im looking at is a beast. Been bored .20 over. all kinda goodnees to it. Now the tuff part. working a deal that fits for me.

Mine had 233k on it when I developed a nasty ticking lifter. Fixed it (so far) and she is back running strong.

I understand the budget thing. I have 3 kids and a mortgage. If the motor goes on the Hoe.....I'm buying a reman motor and installing it myself. So that is my suggestion to you when money is a factor.

What I no about the LT1 is it was a cop motor. Cop car wrecked at 78,000 miles So the guy I no (he works in the pig garage) pulled the motor for his 79 el camino. He then bored it over 20 and ran thru the motor. Silly shit rolled the elcamino and now the motor sits. Looks great. I do no that its stamped on the block 327. How much do you think a reman motor would run me?

Well its not really the tranny Im worried about. I do believe that its capable of taking the 383 torque and hp. And I even found I old man that bought one brand new from jegs and wrecked his hoe b4 he could swap motors. Motor is still wrapped but he doesnt want to take the 20% restocking fee hit and hassle with returning it. Said hell take 3700 but even thats over my budget to be honest. Shit, Id love too but Im just about to move into my house and not to mention I gotta go um take a vacation soon for a period of most likely a year so Im in a bind. Think Ill just fiind a 350 beef it up mildly and swap it out. Would there be any issues I might run into as far as interchangeability?

Ive got WAY TO MUCH time and money into this hoe to just abandon her. I mean shit would be funny if I actually listed all the shit Ive done to this beast. If some of you who go wayyy back with me on here remember correctly this hoe was stock as hell when I got it. From the 456s to the lift, tires, rims all the motor work, true dual flowmaster, dual cats, the 3 tvs ( 4in, 11in, 21in), top of the line alarm, sound system, optima batter, big 3, msd ignition and coilpack, Airraid CAI, and thats just some of the shit. Man I gotta bring the hoe back better than ever right?????

guy still have that motor? what are the specs...is he willing to ship to NY?

Ok then it came out of a B-body Caprice.

Being a Cop motor really means little other than it was most likely well maintained.Outside of that its the same motor you would get in an Impala SS,Buick Roadmaster,Cadillac Fleetwood.Caprice LS and wagon.

The thing that made the 9C1 Caprice a little quicker was the steeper gears and enhanced factory programing for the PCM.

As far as the price for a new L31 motor,i think they range anywere from $2500-$3000.It could greatly depend on who you are getting the motor from.

I can tell from the green silicone coolant hoses that it was indeed out of a 9C1 Police package Caprice.

Stock power for the B-body LT1 is 260hp and 330tq.

Just make 100% sure you are getting EVERYTHING you would need to make the swap.Looking at the pix i can see the motor does not have the A/C pump, tentioner pulley,or the power steering pump.As far as the A/C goes you could just get an A/C delete pulley cheap from an auto parts store.

Also, that motor looks to have been sprayed after it was all put together.Look at the plug wire boots that attach to the Opti spark....They have over spary all over them...Also looks like they over sprayed inside of the throttle body.

Honestly if it were me i'd pass......

It'll fit, and actually it'll bolt right up...so sure, get it...and take pics. I might be interested in some parts off your truck if you can't pull it off though.

That motor sounds like a good candidate for a replacement ;)

350hp sure beats the hell out of a L31 250hp or LT1 260hp rating, thats for sure.Im sure the torque rating is somewere around 400.
