396 is a big block, you would have to address a crap load of stuff to put that in your truck.

I'm taking mine tomorrow to my dad's buddy here locally to have the motor rebuilt. All new bottom end and heads redone for 1,750. That includes R&R also. Will be reusing the valve springs and rockers but other than that everything is new if the actual heads are not cracked. The name of the shop is called Custom Motors. IDK if that helps but figured I would let you know what I'm doing for my blown motor!

1750 doesnt sound bad if they are doing all the work. Seems like everyone up here wants to **** ya any chance they get. Man this is starting to piss me off. Guess Im down to a couple options.
1. find a used vortec (could be a good or bad thing)
2. Rebulid my lower end
3. Find a 350 and have to do some modding
4. Crack a 6 pack AND keep driving the 86 cutlass untill shit pans out.

got 2 options that came up.
1. guy has a motor out of a z78 pickup its a 96 motor...no dist. cap or water pump. he wants 800 firm..
2. another cat has a motor still in a 98 conversion van that he will let me hear run. says no smoke or anything. if i like he will have it taken out and placed on my pickup. 625......what should I do:Handshake:

Option 2, go check it out and if it has fairly low miles I'd go for it.

I agree with option 2 also. The shops around my area were quoting me $1,850.00 - 2,300.00 to rebuild my motor. My dad knew someone, of course should have asked him in the first place. He got me a little better deal. What are they estimating in your area to rebuild your motor?

Lol I thought about going to Texas and picking up a motor and putting it in myself but then I asked myself what type of warranty do I want? They quoted me $1,780 with a 3yr warranty. I spent the extra money. I figured like $200 a year for the warranty. If I picked up a long block for about $1,200.00 and get 1yr warranty if I put it in. Shipped the motor was $1,500 from Texas. After thinking about what I was going to do for about a month I just dropped it off and said FIX the stupid thing! I was frustrated just like you are now!

I was looking at that option also but my question was do you have to beef up the suspension to handle the extra weight? It would def fit and bolt up. You would need the harness and comp. I think the tranny is also a 4l80E and ours comes with the 60E. I also wondered if you had to move the motor mounts? It would be bad ass fo sure!

quick question.....will a 454 out of a 96 fit the tahoe. it came out of a suburban

Yeah it'll fit, you'll need mods to get it all to work. There is a guy over at performance trucks that stuff a 454 into his Tahoe. It's green and lowered.

His name is James B here's a link to a thread he posted some pics in:

They are pics of a long bar setup, something I wanted to do to mine. :D

So I talked to the guys who are rebuilding my motor about an hour ago and bad news but I guess it will be good that all the parts will be new! The crank shaft is trash, both heads are cracked(never overheated) and distributer gear is bad also. I took them a new oil & water pump when I dropped it off. It's up to $2,400 now.
