So OMG, what a difference the new door weather stripping makes. I have to use more force to close the door, but it closes with a nice firm sound. It also cut down on the road/outside noise.

My old weather stripping wasn't in bad shape, it had just a bit of the top edge worn by where your foot would rub over when getting out.

I picked this up about 2 years ago to have incase it got worse, but I got tired of it taking up space in the garage, lol.

Also, concerning the bolts holding my auxillary trans cooler, the 2 per corner seems a bit overkill and is definitely not going anywhere, but wonder if just some plastic xmas tree type push fasteners would work, or should I stick with bolts and just switch to stainless? 20230506_162000.jpg

Yes, and so does my 2001 Yukon, but it has automatic headlights and has the light sensor on the dash.

My 95 Grand Cherokee and 93 Crown Vic were old school also, no auto headlights

yeah, some definitely got auto lights before the bright lcd dashes. I am surprised the crown vic doesn't. my buddy had a Lincoln Mark 7 I think it was from the 90s and that thing would auto dim high beams and all for you.

in the end I remember riding around in the 80s as a kid and people would forget to turn their lights on. to me it's nothing new, I'm just surprised if a ton of cars have full lcd days but not auto lights. I guess some cars do manually turn off.

even I got pulled over once for forgetting to turn my lights on leaving a gas station in a 91 z28. to be fair we were out at the steet races and cops were always out in force around the known meet up parking lots just to keep people from doing dumb stuff in traffic. so not a place to forget right in front of the cops. I still remember being pissed off over getting 3 point ticket over dumb stuff when they knew we raced all the time just a few miles away. racing was the same 3 points, now it's criminal charge in most states. it was fun being a kid back then.

today's kids with these take overs, man they got these cops covered. they can't do crap with these kids today. in our day the cops would block in the exits and we'd all walk over to talk to them. today they run over each other and everyone like wild animals and get away.

My 1986 Saab 900S had auto-headlights. It was pretty advanced for its time. My 1987 900 Turbo had power everything, plus the fast turbo boost controller.
Love old Saabs. Bob Lutz (former GM head of product and one of the only true car guys in the whole place) had some good comments about Saab in his book "Car Guys vs Bean Counters". Basically, he thought it was horse$hit that GM tried to badge-engineer Saabs from the GM product bin.

years and years ago I put some new door seals on a 3rd Gen firebird, car known to be a flexible rattle trap. the door seal did more for fixing rattles and made it feel more solid than the weld in subframe connector everyone always said you had to have lol

Two per corner does seem like overkill. But, they had to have calculated some sort of shock and/or vibration loads on those points to go out of their way to include them in the design. Car makers are all about pinching pennies. I definitely wouldn't use plastic rivets with the weight of the filled cooler and vibrations that area experiences. Then there's the heat and the plastic aging.

My ex wife drove a 79 Saab 900 turbo when we started dating back around 1990 and sold it a couple years after getting married in 1993.

We kept a butter knife next to the console because in the winter the ignition switch (which was on the floor between the seats and behind the shifter) would freeze and the key would twist/break off if you didn't have something to help support it

I've only heard of Waze mentioned on this site. I thought it was like Google Maps. What is it exactly and what does membership get ya?
Registering an account gives you nothing, it just tracks your stats vs. an unregistered version of the app.
I tell everyone about Waze, even though Google bought them a few years ago, I've found it's a much better app than Google Maps for driving/directions. Plus, you know... police.

When people are reporting stuff you really get a good head's up of what might be on or around the road ahead of you.

The police that I know check themselves in whenever they park on the side of the road, because no one has time to chase speeders at 4am.

well it's free no charge for it, never has been
it is owned by google now they bought it several years ago
it is like google maps except different, the main difference is I guess you could call it crowd-sourced in that you as a user can make real-time traffic reports
things like objects in the road, potholes, vehicles stopped, cars on the side of the road, construction, traffic jam, animals, you name it.
you can also mark police or highway patrol locations, then as each user passes by the same marked location the app will alert you and offer you a chance the indicate if the police are still in the location or not so the alert is always in real time, if you drive by and the cop is gone you just press not there, same for any other alert set by other users.
it is also a navigation app just like google maps the main difference in navigation is better real time updates and it will offer a alternate route if traffic is jamed up
google maps is more comprehensive, but waze is programmed to automatically update the map as you drive and as a user you can submit changes if something is incorrect.
I personally use it 99.99999% of the time if I go anywhere I have it set to automatically start whenever android auto starts.
it has a small ad format that shows up accross the bottom of the screen but only when you are completely stopped and it instantly goes away when you move again.

so the bottom line is the more people that use it the more accurate it is.

So you really enjoyed the Seinfeld episode where his 900 was stollen and he was overjoyed because the charred remains were from a turbo model.
