Never fails to fail when you get arms deep in a project it snowballs....

Truth.

Luckily I still haven't figured out what to do with my Armada. So all it took was a battery jump from the Yukon up on jack-stands, and some fresh air in the leaking front tire (valve stem), and she roared back to life. Made it to the parts store and back in record time.

Good deal.

The guy here who owns the one E85 pump within reasonable driving distance keep his price right at where Costco is offering 87 regular. It never makes sense to fill up at the E85 pump when 87 is at the same price (right now, about $3.05/gal).

The other day I was underneath and noticed oil weeping from the front diff on the driver’s side output shaft. That’s new, and I’ve been under it plenty. Did a check on the diff vent and found the little cap at the end (positioned atop the driver side strut tower) at least partially blocked. With Texas mud of course, the gift that keeps on giving.

Cleaned it out, blew air through the line, and added some more hose to extend it higher to the top of the engine compartment. I’d recommend that to anyone with a 4x4 that will get dirty. The OEM location is positioned to catch a lot of mud splash.

Is there some decrease in MPG using corn? Maybe I’ll get to try some in my travels this summer. Corn juice is not common in FL.

Definitely. My Burb averages 13.5-14 MPG around town on 89 octane with 10% or less ethanol (as advertised).

On E85 it averages 10 MPG under the same driving conditions.

Ethanol has about 1/3 less stored energy than regular gasoline.

Yes there is, but I don't remember by how much. James @swathdiver is the numbers guy.

Here are my averages after 145 refuelings:

Note: E0 and E10 are always 93 octane. The only time this motor sees 87 is when mixed with E85.

Bill, there are lots of stations that sell ethanol in Florida but it does depend on where you live. There's but two in the Daytona area, 8 or 9 in my county, dozens in and around Orlando, about a half dozen in the Tallahassee area. Don't you live near Roger in the Naples/Fort Myers area? There's about six or seven Marathons, Racetracs and Union 76s and some are real proud of it!

I run it for three reasons, for the fun of it, for its cleaning properties and when mixed and or when the price is right, because of cost.

If you look at the chart posted above, when we mix E85 and gasoline to get an alcohol content of E15 or E20, my motor at least, gets it best gas mileage. At four cents a mile difference, it adds up to twelve dollars less spent on fuel over 300 miles.

Of course, those who burn 87 will have completely different numbers and experiences. Since getting my license at 16, I've endeavored to stay away from low test gas whenever possible, it's just not good enough for these old fashioned motors. DI motors? Different story as Gary taught me.

Mud splash on the shock tower? No way Jose.

Okay, with all this Hellwig chat, I finally looked them up.

Bar for the front is 1-1/2”. Rear is 1-1/4”. Which is exactly what my PPV already has. Hmmm.

Id probably hazard a guess they are the same, except maybe the metallurgy is different a bit or Hellwig made them for AC delco....
