How hard was it to paint that alternator? I bought a ** black one but still have the OEM one and was thinking of painting it just as a small project.

How did you keep from painting the windings or did you just paint them too?
I painted them. Just go light the only danger is there is a close tolerance inside and obviously you dont want paint dripping down in there. Basically as long as you dont dunk it in a bucket of paint its fine. I dont know why people get all excited about it

You painted that? Nice job.

Lol

That's not mine, just a stolen internet pic. I painted the one on my built LQ9 and it turned out exactly like that one. It just takes lots of cleaning with a toothbrush to get all the crevices clean. Use many light coats (the first few will be "dust" coats) rather than 2-3 heavier coats. I used gloss black brake caliper paint.

Ever seen them paint a big diesel engine before they ship it out? Everything including the accessories, turbos, duct couplings and often even the water hoses are all sprayed. A lot of the paint on the rubber parts flakes off with time/use, though.

I noticed the windings in that one aren’t painted so I suspected. I know the pc one I bought was done before assembly.
