It looks like it’s trying to update the Vehicle Interface Module or VIM which is the Tech2 itself. I think it’s stuck in update mode but all the software is stored on the PMCIA card so you could try to buy a different card and try again or get your money back. I bet the seller knew it was messed up.

eBay? Are you still within the return period?

You said you got engine codes out of it. I got nothing from my bad one
I knew it was a risk when I was buying it--so that's fine. I did get codes out of it.
Power it up using ONLY the AC adapter. No data cables. It should go through the POST (Power On Self Test) and tell you if it passed. If it doesn't pass the POST, it's defective.

EDIT: should look like this after POST, and make sure your software version is this one:

I've been powering it up using the pwr port in my van while plugged into the obd. I did power it up in my house also--was the same both times. I guess it passes all the self tests because it goes to the next screen that you posted. It goes so fast I can't read if it all passes. I def have that version.

Just me, Get a

Replace the card? cheap attempt at recovery,
I'll try moving the card to the next slot, but I think I've read the card could only be used in the one slot.

Unplug the power adapter, it doesn’t need that. Just plug it into the OBD port and see if anything changes. The only time you need the external power is if you’re doing module programming and don’t want to risk it turning off and resetting during that process. For diagnostics the OBD port is all you need.

No, It will work in the other also. i do mean litterally replace the card. i Own a knockoff also. im no tech wizard in any way but in the aircraft i maintain 9 out of 10 times it is the software on the card that prevents our integrated diagnostics to function. no diagnostics no fly so i throw another card in the reader and it normally corrects it. the cards are on ebay?

You can run it in compatibility mode on Win7, no need to install XP
Thanks for the Windows 7 tip. I gave up on the laptop and installed it on my desktop on its own hard drive. I just got Tis200 installed, updated and ready to go on Window 7 Pro. Has taken hours, and plenty of hoops. After installing and updating Win 7 Pro I then had to install Windows Virtual Machine and XP Mode, and then install Tis2000 and the update inside the virtual machine. If anyone is interested in doing the same I'll lay it out while it's still fresh in my head. I bookmarked anything that was useful and got me there. But if you can just install XP on something it'll be a lot easier.

ya big hassle only to discover that tis2000 doesn't really do much but run the tech2 from a desktop and record data if so desired, cumbersome and aggravating, tech2win is leaps and bounds ahead of tis2000

Yup, they do sell the cards on ebay. This is, what I think anyway--a legit GM unit.

So what software version does that screen show? Not 33.004?

Just got another Tech2 delivered. This one passes the built in tests, but has a fail on the startup tests for RTC. Guessing that's real time clock but... Clock seems to be working and holds time when I unplug the power unlike the last one. When I go into the startup test results it shows RTC pass? I wouldn't be surprised if these are all returns they are selling. Both I received seem like they have been repackaged. Will try it in the truck in a bit.

It works. Did the 'function test' to bleed the ABS. I also had a couple DTC's I had to clear to run it. C0022, C0026, C0035. Will see if they come back. No other codes anywhere else though.

It also had someone else's VIN in it. So it had been returned.

I don't have the USB adapter for it yet so can't check it with the tis2000 software yet.

Now to bleed the brakes. Wish I'd bought that Motive kit already.

About a year ago mine didn't pass the RTC test on start up and never has again, even after replacing the internal battery. Doesn't seem to have affected it though. My card also began acting up so I just bought another off Ebay AND a new main cord off of Amazon. Haven't had a chance to try it out on the old architecture yet but it's all working fine in my truck. The old card started reading on the splash screen as being only 10MB instead of 32. I took the door off so I could swap cards from slot to slot, the 800s like to read from the slot closest to the screen, the CANbus vehicles don't seem to care.

Yes, please lay out the process that you used.

Thanks in advance.

I have an 07, which I believe is a GM900. What is the CANdi used for, and do I need to use it?
