Those dumb coat hooks in the back lol Also the black plastic piece under the visor. I figured out what it was for, it's a washer, there's a screw in there that holds the headliner up on the driver side.

Also note, you don't necessarily have to remove the wiring harness. But it does need glued back onto the top of the headliner when you put it back in. It's a SOB to unplug, you have to disassmble much of the dash to do so.

I just removed a headliner at the junk yard (and reinstalled it, I'm nice). It took me all over about 15 minutes. I pulled the sun roof as mine has too many issues to repair.

Also I figured out, the foam sandwiched in-between the fabric and the headliner is the headliner. There's a thin film of fiberglass between it and the fabric. I didn't see that until closer inspection.

Hopefully I can finish all this work up. My next item on the list is a 6.0L and 4L65E swap :) - I have that in a separate post.

Not to mention, the foam is what breaks down and makes to original headline fall off and sag.
If you don't remove all of the old foam the new fabric will soon start sagging again.

I always got foam-backed fabric to do my headliners. If yours isn't, I imagine you're going to have to add that layer yourself.
I assumed the replacement fabric will be foam backed. And there’s another layer below that, attached to the headliner, no?

RE: Headliner fabric color

I had a (sort of) custom molded dash cover ordered.... About 5 months ago.
What I wanted to caution you about is the "sample card / sample swatch"......

The sample was not the same color batch as the actual material they had in stock.

Have them send you a slice of the ACTUAL material they believe is your color.

that would be very frustrating. I ordered samples from nelson's auto supply. frustrated as I have not seen them and want to finish the project. I may just order the closest color that stock interiors has and say the heck with searching for a closer match.

I ran into something new. I need to figure out where to order these clips. they are missing from my driver side and think maybe reason for intermittent rattle I have up there.

Yeah, they have a very wide ranging selection. Didn’t search, but figured if nothing else, if they don’t have these, they might have other things you might need.

The Wiring Harness Clip

I ended up going to the auto parts store, ClipsAndFasteners.com (called as well), and surfed GmPartsDirect.com I also called a buddy who built these trucks at GM factory. It looks and seems as though the wiring harness is the part number and GM doesn't source those fasteners. I'm sure somebody sells them however, no idea how to search for it without a part number or name.

The coat hook

The coat hooks are rivet style. The hook has a pin that comes down and separates the retention clips. I'd think GM has some other coat hooks that work in the same fashion. Just not sure what year make or model they would be on.

If you go to an online GM parts dealer and look them up, the coat hangers for this are discontinued, pn 15760164. Looks like they’re a wrecking yard part. The ones for the newer models are completely different.
