Which engine oil do you use?

Walmart always has a sale on mobil 1 full synthetic-i usually get a 5 quart jug for 22 bucks.I do use rp for oil filter.

Whichever named brand full synthetic is least expensive, but a few dollars isn't of concern. Generally Mobil 1, Valvoline or Castrol. This time at 93,000 I decided to try high mileage version hoping it might help preserve the oil tight condition. Actually did it at 25% oil life remaining on the DIC to beat the winter weather. Just in time because it's 35 degrees and 30 mph wind today.

I'm not a fan going by the oil life DIC, mileage is what I go by.
Usually every 6K or 12 months which ever comes first.
On my 07 Yukon Denali 6.2, I use Castrol synthetic blend 5w30, GM specs suggest 5w30.

Maybe it's our usage of the Chevy but the DIC always shows a change due quite a bit before 6,000. On the other hand, our other car tracks the miles and notifies at the set mileage rather than try to judge what kind of driving we do.

As for oil, in the 06 Tahoe 5w30 orielly dino juice and delco filter. 126k miles

06 Silverado Delco filter and currently 10w40 orielly conventional as a test to see how pressure does over the life of the oil change. 5 or 10w30 doesnt carry the pressure I'd like to see when hot after about a 1000 miles. But the truck also has high mileage and before I got it, was driven a while with a bad oil pump oring so I'm sure the bearings arent in fantastic shape. But its always had orielly oil since new and it's made it to 400k so the oil cant be that bad.

My 95 F150 5.0 coming up on 300k gets oriellys sae 40 in the summer and 10w40 in the winter and a Motorcraft filter.
Another truck that wasnt cared for before I got it. 150k on it when I got it in 2010 and the original plugs were in it along with the original wires ( had the date on them from the factory). Oil was water thin cold so I cant imagine what it was hot. If I run anything less than some sort of 40 weight it holds 25 psi at 2000 rpm and 10 at idle vs 45 and 25 respectively.

So, unless it's on stupid clearance like the case of Pennzoil sae 40 I got for $11 I dont run fancy oil just good filters.

For starters I drive a 2006 GMC Yukon denali xl, LQ4 6.0.

i wasn’t really sure wether or not to post this here or the engine/drivetrain category. So if this is the wrong place sorry haha.
But I was just curious as to what kind of oil you guys use, I’ve been running royal purple for every oil change for about a year now, and was looking at other options. I figured what better place to look for advice than the forum with the same people and the same LS trucks as me.

Well, you already have the best, so if cost is an issue, I would suggest Rotella Gas Truck. If you want to pick up another mpg, change your trans fluid using Royal Purple or Red Line synthetic.

I picked up about a quarter mpg by switching off of plain M1 to ACDelco full synthetic. No more rattles on start up and the Blackstone Labs report is better too. Rotella Gas Truck has similar numbers and when the supply of my favorite oil dries up I'll switch to that.

FWIW, my mechanic uses AC Delco full synthetic on our GM vehicles, which I believe is actually Mobil rebranded. On our Fords, he uses Motorcraft which I also believe is a rebrand, but of what I am unsure.

The little bit of research I've done on the topic indicates Amsoil is, hands down, the best oil you can buy. Do you need all the features it offers at that price point though? I do not. Or, at the least, do not believe I do...

Been tempted to start using royal purple. I’ve been using cheap autozone 5w30 and half a bottle of Lucas treatment.
Does anyone know if royal purple has detergent.

This is such a debated topic full of opinions so here's mine.

I always use a full synthetic typically a thick oil on anything that is higher mileage or beat hard. My Tahoe is currently on 15-40 Rotella T6 because it was super cheap at Walmart and I believe it is a quality oil. All the engines I've pulled apart that I have run a full synthetic on for a few oil changes are surprisingly clean despite often having very high miles. I also like to run some sort of oil stabilizer like Lucas if the engine has piston slap on cold starts or any aggressive valve train noise. My Tahoe often has a few seconds of piston slap in the morning and since I started running half a jug of Lucas with each oil change it has eliminated it 9/10 cold starts. It gives me a little more peace of mind knowing I have a decently large cam with unknown mileage and brand lifters. Oil change interval on the Tahoe is somewhere between 3-7k miles but I check it weekly.

On my "Race truck" that I have a lot of money in the engine I am a little more lax on the brand of oil because I don't intend to run it nearly as long as I do in my Tahoe. It will never see more than 3k miles on an oil change because I am **** about opening the filters and seeing the health of the engine. I typically still run a full synthetic but won't bat an eye at buying bulk Amazon Basics full synthetic. Maybe thats dumb but I have never seen any indication of excessive wear due to cheaper oil.

This is something I've wanted to put in one of these threads for a very long time. This was at my local store, white sticker paper with oriellys high mileage on it over mobile super high mileage. They had run out of house brand and apparently mobil makes their oil so they were just selling the mobil at house brand prices

I've heard a lot of good things about this stuff. Think I am going to give it a shot on my next oil change. I've always been one to just use whatever full synthetic is on sale and a quality filter.

Location location lol. PBR is 8.99 here cant get Old Mil at the store but the old gas station up the road has a couple 12 packs lol.
As for oil, yeah I learned years ago the Walmart brand was made by valvoline for a few years then havoline. Who knows now, but for the most part as long as you have a reasonable OCI any oil will suffice.
