What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I've left my dome light on a few times with no problems. Just got in after it's been sitting for a week or so, started it as normal then I saw the light on then press the switch as normal to turn it off. The PCM will kill power to it after some time. I don't know if it kills the lights after an amount of time has elapsed or when the battery reaches a specific voltage.

I don't see how the brake light would drain the battery even if there was a dead short because there shouldn't be power to it unless the pedal is pressed.

I'd start with the usual method for a parasitic draw- at the fuse box with a DVOM set for mA at the battery.

I have no idea what this means "DVOM set for mA at the battery."

In my 10 years of ownership,I’ve had similar things happen twice. Both times, it was the battery needing replaced. For whatever reason these things don’t give you warning when the battery is going out. It just stops working one day. I’ve had it happen twice in the garage and once at a gas station. No warning at all that the battery was worn out :lol:

For whatever reason these things don’t give you warning when the battery is going out. It just stops working one day. I’ve had it happen twice in the garage and once at a gas station. No warning at all that the battery was worn out :lol:
Any accessories left on, such as lighting, should be shut off after 10 minutes (at least I believe that’s the time limit on the NBS) I’d expect this to be close or the same on an NNBS.

Battery was replaced this March/April [emoji1745]

I thought so too. Pretty sure they shut off after a certain amount of time.

Went to leave for work this morning..... completely dead. Used the key to unlock, tried to turn on the dash and nothing. Used the explorer and wife had AAA jump it. Said it fired right up. Sooo, either the kids left a some light on( did think it would kill it that bad after 1 day), or it's the tail light on my drivers side.

The brake light wasn't working a few weeks ago. I took it off and but a brick on the brake pedal. Started moving the wires and it was going on and off. Managed to get it to work but I'm wondering if that is what is draining it? Guess I'll cut it open and see what wires are loose and try to fix it Saturday.

Just FYI, on the NNBS/GMT900s, the brake lights don't work unless the key is on. Even if the switch was bad it wouldn't leave the brake lights on without the key on, so I doubt that is your culprit.

Also the BCM will kill power to the dome lights after a certain period of time, even if a door is left open or map light left on.

When the truck was dead, did you try wiggling the battery cables to see if the truck regained power?

brake lights will work for 10 minutes after the key is out just like rap, except it's not exactly the same as rap, my 18 does it also. after the bcm powers down then the brake lights wont work.
either way 10 minutes shouldn't be killing a battery.

the bcm powers down after 10 minutes just like rap does for the radio, might be less than 10 minutes I haven't timed it I just tried it to see if my alarm would go off by pressing the brake pedal

This is true.


Battery was replaced this March/April [emoji1745]

New batteries could be faulty. Now, if this one was to replace the previous one due to a sudden, inexplicable death, then you may have a problem that's not the battery's fault.

Digital Volt/Ohm Meter- A basic tool ANY car and/or homeowner should have.

Most decent entry-level ones can measure milliamps up to 10 amps (A), or 10,000 milliamps (mA). If you decide to investigate, it's easy to walk you through it. You just hook up the meter between the negative battery cable and the negative post on the battery and pull fuses one by one until the mA reading drops. Whatever circuit that fuse supports is where your problem is connected.

My experience is usually a sharp, drastic change in the weather temperature usually triggers a failure.
