I was going to say to check your torque converter bolts and then saw that photo... That vanilla or chocolate?

I’ll still check them, because this just started. I’ve replaced head gaskets and intake gaskets, but the only one I messed with the other day was the intake. It’s only on the passenger side, and not driver’s, so I think it just started.

Here’s your torque specs brother

Thanks man, I appreciate it! Gonna be another long weekend. We are down to one vehicle, so need to get this thing up and running.

What are ALL of the possible ways oil and coolant can mix? Head gasket? Intake gasket? Like I said, it’s only on passenger side right now, so maybe caught it earlier. Would that mean intake gasket on that side? I’m racking my brain on this. Very frustrated. Don’t want to pay a mechanic an arm and a leg. The more infuriating part is that tick/knock, but I will look at the torque converter bolts. How easy are they to check? I’ll also pull the lifters on the passenger side too

I’m about to punch myself... I just realized when I had the trans inspected moooonths ago, they said the TC/flexplate bolts were loose... if that ends up being it, I’ll be happy, but also pissed lol. What’s the best way to check/tighten?

Coolant does go thru the intake on the l31 right? Any chance that's just what came out of the intake whme you pulled it?

Yes it does. It could have come out when I pulled it and fell into the pan I’m assuming. May not still be leaking, but residual from pulling. It’s fairly consistent; however, I’m not seeing it on the driver side yet.

I’ve also been getting a vibration at higher speeds on the freeway that goes away when I let off the throttle. I figured something in drivetrain. Holy crap... might very well be TC/flexplate bolts

There has to be an inspection cover for the flexplate/converter. Open that and you can access the bolts by rotating the motor with the transmission in neutral. Don't forget to chock the wheels. When torquing to spec it may be necessary to have a helper with a breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt up front to keep the motor from turning while you're torquing. I've had them loose before on my Buick and you'd think the motor was coming apart.

I do not know what your specs would be.

Well I started the truck and got underneath. The flexplate warbles. Got a wrench in there and could easily turn them, but they weren’t backed out. Would those three TC bolts be the only issue, or could the flywheel bolts be loose?

Tighten up TC bolts but still ticking. So stumped. Put my ear everywhere and can’t really seem to pinpoint. Either flywheel or something around Cylinder 6/8. Lifter, pushrod, rocker, rod... definitely leaking coolant into oil now so gotta pull intake again

Here she is!!! Probably the fifth time I’ve done this. Can tear down the top end in a hot second! Now riddle me this... how would the intake bolts loose their torque overnight? I could take out the passenger front 3 practically with my fingers and I had them torqued to 14 ft lbs... that’s why it leaked

Maybe some thread locker will keep them nice and snug--or does the torque specs say not to use it?
