I'll be moving from Texas to Michigan round July, I don't want to drive it that many miles at once due to 254k on the original 4l60e and still having AFM. I just want to play it safe. will these suburban's fit on a uhaul auto transport? not the dolly but the trailer looking one

You might be at the very tippy-top of the rated weight of the trailer. I think they max around 5k lbs. likely fine tho.

uhaul has a new bigger trailer to can rent. they call it a toy hauler. if it doesn't fit on the normal car one.

they do a good job of telling you if your vehicle will fit when you go thru the booking online. I wouldn't worry about the weight. Just the size. those things arw over built tanks of a car trailer

+1 on the u-haul online app. You plug in your tow vehicle and the car you want to load, and you get a pass / fail.

I have used their car haulers perhaps a dozen times. Most I have loaded was a 4k lbs IS350, and the trailer was fine for that. The one thing to watch out for is questionable front tires on the trailer. It seems as if they frequently get towed with the hitch too low, putting extra strain on the fronts. Last one I rented I would not have accepted for a 1,200 mile trip. If you rent from a u-haul rental center, they can swap tires for you.

I have a set of Race Ramp trailer ramp extenders for loading up cars that can high side during the load process. You will definitely not have that problem with your burb. Do remember to extend the tongue jack when you are loading; makes the trailer more stable.

254k miles... Texas to Michigan? Eh. We've driven our previous 300+k Tahoe from Texas to Michigan (DFW to Detroit) many times. And currently drive our 160k 6L80 and 260k 4L60 old Tahoes on that trip as well a couple times a year. Not to mention, DFW to Montana, California, Florida, and so on. Sometimes hauling a 5000+ pound trailer with a 4L60. All original transmissions and all AFM. I would not hesitate driving a 254k GMT900 from Texas to Michigan. Well, we did buy all of our Tahoes new, so I am intimately familiar with their history and condition. I suppose I may have a different opinion if I wasn't.

Please school me on which engines Half@$$ed up against a 4L60? Was under the impression that a 6L80 was needed to allow Engine Half@$$.

I thought this too. I thought they had the e38 ecm? which I believe is they ended up with the afm hardware but was never activated till they switched to the newer ecm's. e67 is it? something like that. my guess was always the ecm was limited to run the afm smoothly, so they expanded the os and hardware in the next ecm and activated it.

I could be completely wrong about that, but it seemed logical reading thru it.

Don't know about any PCMs that can handle Engine Half@$$, although I can't rule out the possibility, but my guess remains:
if a PCM operates a 4L60, it cannot operate Engine Half@$$, so no P01- or P59-type PCM can do it ... I THINK ...

If an ECM works with a separate TCM, and that TCM operatesa 4L60, that ECM might (?) have Engine Half@$$ capability (dormant or not), but odds are, not.
If an ECM works with a separate TCM, and that TCM operates a 6L80 or newer, then that ECM has Engine Half@$$ capability (dormant or not).

just drive it unless your having issues with it currently, these things are too big for uhauls

your less likely to break down on a extended drive anyway than you are around town stop n go

The 2007-2008 SUVs and pickups used that 4-speed with their AFM equipped engines. Is that what you mean?

As for the OP, his truck ought to make that trip easy if it's in good repair. That's about a 20 hour run depending on where the journey begins and ends.

We have a 2008 Z71 Tahoe, 5.3 Flex with AFM and a 4L60-E (RPO M30), and we have a 2013 LTZ Tahoe, 5.3 Flex with AFM and a 6L80 (RPO MYC).

Knew about Engine Half@$$ with 6L80E. Thanks y'all for teaching me about Engine Half@$$ with 4L60E. Wonder if that uses one pcm, or an ecm & a tcm ...
