Ok so I think this fake wood grain shit has to go. I’m gonna paint it in the dark metallic Fusion I used in The Machine on the switch panels.

First piece of the console is painted. I just wanted to see how it went and used one of the small pieces so if it failed I could find one on EBay and leave the interior wood grain alone, but it came out good. 220 grit wet sanded with laquer thinner. Then I used Automotive Touchup adhesion promoter followed by Krylon Fusion Dark Metallic.

So, Mark, you're using lacquer thinner as the "wet" for wet sanding? I need to do this to mine.
Yes. Combined with scotchbrite and laquer thinner to start with because that strips the painted part completely but won’t remove the wood grain. It does seem to strip the shiny layer on the wood grain, then I wet sand the whole thing with 220 and the thinner.

Found out that if I keep the surface of the wood grain wet with lacquer thinner long enough it comes off. It’s like a film with clear over the top. It’s not too bad to remove with scotchbrite and thinner. I got everything except the main dash bezel stripped and painted today. They’re drying now.
