Transfer case drain plug. Should I be concerned? I dont think this thing has been serviced its entire 180000 mile life. Not sure if it matters but I never use 4wd. I'd actually like to delete it.

Ok thanks. Any idea how much fluid it should take if I completely emptied it? I know it calls for a quart and a half but I was able to shake it around over the pan and got almost every drop. I'm on about two and half quarts so far and getting nervous. Lol...waiting to see a puddle show up somewhere..

The fluid spec is 1.6 quarts of Dexron VI.

Your supposed to fill it until it spills out or just put in 1.6? I'm at 3 quarts. Im stopping until I figure out what's going on.

The factory procedure reads "Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with the recommended fluid." I have never been able to put more than the specified 1.6qts in before fluid started coming out of the fill hole. Are you sure the case is level and sitting in a position similar to its installed position? Perhaps reinstall then fill from empty.

Yes it's perfectly level. If I tilt it towards the rear output seal (which is the same side as the drain and fill holes) fluid comes out of the seal before it comes out of the fill hole. But that's normal behavior..I think.

I would slosh it around and drain out what you have for good measure. Then wait until it's mounted on the transmission at the correct angle, with the vehicle level to fill it up.

Yeah that's the issue. The trucks not level right now and won't be until I move it. Im thinking maybe when you drain it in the truck you dont actually get all the fluid out? Im watching rebuild videos now to see how much they fill up with.

Just like your engine oil pan, the tcase can hold more than the required fluid capacity. You’ll be safe filling to the spec.

Yeah your probably right. I just gave the internals a nice rinse with some fresh fluid....

On a separate note. The transmission takes 12.4 quarts to fill up? Maybe more since I replaced the tourqe converter? I put a quart in the converter when I installed it.

Anyone know the connector # for the ignition signal wire to the starter? Had some damage during re assembly. I ordered a PT1233 but Im not completely sure. I tried my first effort at de pinning but couldn't get it back together..

You might get lucky and find one in stock in a local auto parts store for around $40.... Or much cheaper on eBay.
