Okay so everything for the spare wheel kit came today, including the optional hoist for 22" wheels (bottom of the pic), went to a buddy with a used tire shop and picked an almost new one mounted balanced for $50 ... and I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to get it installed.

Here's the thing that has me totally confused though ...

I see the jack accessories, heat shield, hoist, and other little bits and ends, but I don't see the big metal cradle that I assume is how these things are mounted on ... is that not how it attaches?

Okay so I'm guessing the tire is just suspended by the hoist.

Interesting ...

Yes, that is what that cable is for. That thing on the end goes through the center hole in the rim and secures it.

thanks man ...

so how do you lower and raise the spare?
do you have to put one of those rods that are part of the jack accessories through the hole in the bumper cover and turn?

Oh and what do you guys think of the idea of wrapping some gloss carbon fiber vinyl around the lower front bumper valance?

Now that the running boards and regular mirrors are gone, the only part of the body that has that horrific textured black plastic is that valance ... so until I make a decision on the whole front end replacement I thought that this might improve the overall look.

Thoughts?

I like the lower valance vinyl wrap idea... I wish I could wrap the avy's sail panels instead of painting it!

Felix, do you know what kind of shops do vinyl wrap work?
The tint shop I've used in the past doesn't do it.

Should i consider plasti-dipping the valance?
Or do you think CF will look better?

---------- Post added at 06:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:34 PM ----------

Wait ... isn't plasti-dipping plastic somewhat redundant? :)
