Long time Tahoe owner here, but finally upgraded to a Dark Ash 2025 Z71 back in May. I had scoured the internet for chrome delete tutorials, etc., especially for the Z71 hood emblem. Other than plastidip or the Silverado Z71 emblem (a fair bit larger), I never really found exactly what I was looking for. Ended up painting it all myself and thought I’d share for those who are considering the same!

1) Front and rear bowtie borders, Z71 hood and grille emblems
Paint- Luna One 2K in high gloss black

2) orange side markers
VViviD dark black headlight tint

Below are some pictures of the process and result, along with what I learned (and what I’d suggest to not do!)

Luna One 2k is a really good and pretty self explanatory product. I didn’t want to plasti dip or buy aftermarket because I thought the size of the Silverado emblems would bother me. I also wanted something permanent, so I opted to give it a shot. Initially I taped off the textured black interior of the bow tie but after removing the tape, realized that some of the spray bled into the edges. I removed the tape and resprayed the entire thing.

For the hood emblems, I removed them and tried my best to get off the adhesive off the back. What a humongous pain in the ass that was. I bought some new 3M auto adhesive tape and got to trimming…. Also a massive pain in the ass. No taping on these emblems, sprayed the whole front.

The Z71 grille logo is easy-ish to remove but it comes in one large piece. The emblem is mounted on a plastic backing. It looked like I couldn’t get it off without breaking the pins/brackets on the backside, so I opted to spray the whole front of it.

Lastly, I used the headlight tint to black out the orange side markers. Really easy to do with a hair dryer and exacto-knife. Only oddity here is there are raised letters on the light and they’re a bit more visible with the tint on but no big deal.

I tried the headlight tint on the thumb buttons on the door handles but it didn’t stick, so I’m going to put some gloss black vinyl on those. I don’t plan on doing anything to the skid plate area because I’d deem that more as a brushed chrome look versus the plastic chrome elsewhere.

Anyway, I’d give myself a B+ or A- if I’m being generous. Overall I’m happy with how it looks. Fire away with any thoughts on questions!
