I was wondering if anyone has tried the Rotella for gas engines yet? I am almost due for an oil change and have been using Mobil 1 synthetic since I bought my Tahoe 3 years ago. One time I changed to the high mileage and it seemed my L9H ate that stuff. It was the only time I ever had to add oil between oil changes, so I only used that shit once. However, I have been seeing Mobil 1 isn't what it used to be and have been considering switching to Rotella for gas engines. Should I try it, or keep using Mobil 1? I have around 165k on my L9H and want it to last until I buy a house. Mechanically, there is nothing wrong or even remotely wrong with my engine, just has the 'normal' early morning piston slap. I think this engine may last well beyond 200k

Usually change it around 2800-3500 miles. I do mostly city ciiving.

Mike, you can use ANY oil since you are changing it LONG before its used up.
Also, your engine should NOT consume oil regardless in such a short change interval unless there's a problem.

Look at the you tube about the Amazon Basics full synthetic oil compared to Mobil 1 and others. It won or tied Mobil 1 in all tests. I have been using for a year now with no bad results. No leaks either. no burning of oil. The shit works. I use a Wix long filter.

When I bought it, I used Mobil 1 for awhile and NEVER had to add oil. Sometime last year, I switched to Mobil 1 high mileage to try it out. During that time, I added 2 qts between the next oil change. I went back to the normal Mobil 1 and it has not used a drop since.

I have used heavier rotella diesel in my XJ and it worked great. I think rotella makes 5w-30 now it should be some of the best oil you can use.

Mike, my motor quieted down after switching off Mobil One to ACDelco. As posted elsewhere, the numbers, while not complete, between Rotella Gas Truck and the ACDelco oil are very similar. Have seen some posts where guys mentioned switching over to Shell but can't remember if they gave feedback yet. I wouldn't hesitate if yours were mine. Mine didn't use any oil between changes on M1 or ACDelco. I shoot for 5K changes but sometimes by the time we get around to it, she's traveled another thousand! No ill effects.

I'm still in the process of running my first change with Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 and the longer WIX filter. I almost never hit 5K miles a year, so I end up changing it at that interval. I have a Blackstone analysis from the last oil and will be comparing that to the Rotella when I change it early next year.

I pretty much agree with all replies here.

You could easily double the mileage you're changing it at if you wanted to. As for it lasting 200K miles, that's not even a question if you don't beat the ever-loving snot out of it. Running full synthetic and changing it while it's still damned-near fresh ensures that if that 6.2 ever does fail, it surely won't be from a problem with the oil.

I've ran my 5.3 hard for the past 50K miles with the exception for the ~20K mile period when Jenn was driving it. High RPM, high speed, holding it in lower gears with the engine zinging so it'd jump and shoot a gap as soon as I punched it... basically driving it like one would a Corvette. Now, at 200K miles, it was still running like a beast as always as confirmed with my time slips. Your 6.2 will be just fine well beyond 200K, barring a non-oil-related failure.

I only pulled the motor because of a lifter tick at startup, and now I'm camming it and raising the compression. Still on that 200K-mile bottom end. Ran Mobil1 for my first two changes after purchase then Pennzoil Platinum ever since. It's quieter on the Pennzoil. I'm gonna try Rotella T6 after I get it back together.
