Need to drop the spare, but the Hoist won't engage

I'm trying to drop the spare on my 2013 PPV. I can't get the square drive on the jack rod to engage the hoist to do it. Any advice to bump it into place?

I’m going to assume that you are putting the correct end in and not the wrong end.

Is the guide tube in place between the bunker and the hoist? Any way to shine a flash light in the hole while still seeing if there is anything in the way?

Mine was not engaging also. I had to crawl under to get it lined up

the square female hole on the rod goes into the tube, you clip two pieces of rod together, slide the female end in the hole then use the lug wrench it has a square hole in the center to slide over the male end of the rod that is now coming out of the tube.
then it should be righty-tighty, lefty loosey

I was able to get a small enough bright light to shine down the tube and could see half the square drive lug.

then squirmed in enough to see the problem. Reaching it was another matter. All is corrected now.

Good to hear!

Once you get the spare lowered, clean up and lubricate l the hook/security latch mechanism so it will work when you need it to release along side the road.

Good to hear!

Once you get the spare lowered, clean up and lubricate l the hook/security latch mechanism so it will work when you need it to release along side the road.

Good advice. I always do this on my trucks. The last thing you want is to find out its rusted shut on the side of the road.

I like to crank it down, clean out the debris that has built up in the rim and spray the hoist down with some lube. I do this spring and fall.

I just want to say thanks for posting this picture. i did not realize how different this winch was from the one in my Astro van since i did not get a complete jack set when i bought the PPV. I was able to order a set of the tools needed to drop the spare since i see how it works now.
