Today I changed the oil and filter on my 08 Silverado with an LY2 4.8 l engine. I had bought an AC Delco High Performance UPF48R which Rock Auto listed. The threaded hole was too big so it wouldn’t screw on. I tried the WIX filter I had on hand for my 02 Denali and it threaded on fine. I determined the correct size by using my right index finger- if it stopped at the first knuckle it was the right size but if it went to the second knuckle it was too big. Unscientific but it worked. Off to OReilly’s I went. I looked up the correct filter #’s in their book and all of them had the big holes and wouldn’t fit. For instance they listed the WIX 57060. My finger went to the second knuckle. I had noted the Mobil 1 M1-206A which I took off. They had it in stock. My finger only went to the first knuckle. It fits. But it’s not listed as a correct filter for the LY2, the M1-113A is listed. I checked it. My finger went to the second knuckle. It wouldn’t have fit. Has anybody else run into this? The same filters are listed for all the 08’s with any of the V8’s.

My 2001 5.3l takes the M1-206a sized filter.

Is the filter mount part of the pan on these engines, or part of the block? If the pan, maybe you have an earlier pan on there?

IDK but I just looked up the p/n for a Mobil 1 on my 02 Yukon Denali 6.0 and it comes up as a M1-206A! I guess it’s possible they did something to gain more clearance since the thing lays on the ground ( bagged and bodied ). Now that I think about it, I thought it was weird that the drain plug is directly over the crossmember that lays on the ground when it’s aired out. The oil poured onto the crossmember and then into the drain pan. I’ll get better pics tomorrow.

Up here to the right
I bet they put a more shallow pan on, obviously with diff oil filter mount, like @HiHoeSilver said mark.

Can we backwards xref which ls engine/body style/year uses that filter and maybe figure out which pan you really have on there?

Does make sense? I feel like that dope brent right now...

LMAO you’re not even close to Brent. I think I have figured out. It is definitely not the original pan and I can see why. There’s several clearance issues including the power steering rack which right now has a nearly pinched line. There’s a casting # 12558999 on it. Google sent me to the
LS1tech.com forum and it seems the actual p/n for the pan and windage tray is 12628771. It’s for a 99-02 F body Camaro or Firebird and it’s low profile. It also seems to hold less than the 6 quarts I put in it. I’m seeing 5- 5 1/2 quarts and it is reading high on the dipstick so I might end up sucking some out through the tube. I can’t seem to get a good reading on the level for some reason. It’s not foamed on the dipstick, just hard to read.
