I bought a 2007 Yukon Xl Denali with the 6.2l with only 84,000 miles on it a few months ago. I have just completed my second oil change and the level on the dip stick is reading about a quart or so too high. I put 6 quarts as per the owner manual. What am I missing? Should I keep the correct amount in the engine, should I drain some to achieve appropriate level on the dip stick? Is my filter too small? I had to use a mobil 1 filter since that's all the parts store had in stock. The oil pressure gauge on the dash reads about 60 psi on start up and then down to 40psi at idle.

If yours is equipped with the factory oil cooler, that will add to some of the capacity.

I would drain a little bit and get the level where it should be.

I always change the filter before I drain the oil from the oil pan.... Not sure how much, if any, oil runs back to the pan once you have opened up the oil system by removing the filter. (On a 6.0 powerstroke, it's 1 qt)

I always let it drain 20 to 30 minutes minimum as well.

.... Filter is just fine. They all seem to have got smaller over the years. Better technology I guess

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

You've got a good model year, as there is no AFM on that truck's motor. Change your oil and filter every 3000-5000 miles, and run two 10 oz. containers of Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner after each oil change, and keep your air cleaner filter clean, and you should get a lot of miles and fun out of that truck.
