Putting the Escalade gauge cluster into the other trucks is another thing some guys want to do. It requires a custom harness I believe and it definitely requires a custom "Hybrid" bezel to be fabricated by combining the Esky bezel and Tahoe bezel.

@Rocket Man can verify/clarify about the harness.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2012 Suburban LTZ 4wd. I'm not too familiar with these models as I am the K2XX and GMT800s.

I'd love to know what updates GM did to this platform over the model years (electrical, mechanical, cosmetic, etc). I did some searching, but didn't find a comprehensive list (could be operator error, lol).

If I end up purchasing it, I'll be pouring over the electrical upfitter manual and determining what connectors/terminals are available. I build wiring harnesses for the K2XX SUV platform to allow folks to add factory options and hope to be able to do the same with the GMT900 SUV. Please let me know popular options that people would like to add.

Took me a while to find this thread again. The OC switches in our 09 Esky Plat are shrouded and ... GM also added another set of tumble switches behind each of the 2nd row seats on the C pillars for a total of 4 tumble switches in the truck.

It’s kinda weird to open up the rear doors, blindly reach behind the 2nd row seat and toggle the switch to have just one seat tumble forward. This obscure switch location is better suited to have a 3rd row occupant make an easier exit.

There's not going to be a ton of interest in adding factory options because for the GMT900's there weren't many that are still particularly desirable. I looked into this in 2019 after I tried to trade in my Z71 on something and couldn't find anything I actually liked. I then decided to simply keep my Z71 and add the stuff that I really desired from the newer models. I added a small lift, LED headlights (retro), replaced the seat leather and went with red, and then wrapped the dash to match, changed over the interior lighting to LED and added footwell lighting and lighted door sills, and changed all the 900-generation badges to the 2019 style.

Those are all things I think would be really desirable...but most of them were not offered at all on the GMT900's. So to me the more productive path would be to focus on adding those items either using aftermarket stuff and making it look factory, or possibly trying to actually use the stuff from the new trucks. Obviously that may not be possible, but i've done it before with other vehicles so it can't be ruled out. But things like Alpine's x009-GM "restyle" system are a great example. Pioneer has an even better 9" unit that can be custom fit, but that takes some skill to do.

One thing I can suggest - figure out how to add the factory rear-seat heaters. I looked into it and i'm not sure it's possible, but it's definitely not easy if it is possible. There are two modules that need to be added, in addition to changing out the rear HVAC control module. You could get my money if you could figure that one out.

The rear power liftgate isn't particularly difficult to add, it's the parts cost that's the killer.

I'll add more suggestions as I think of them.

Rear seat heating as well as cooling is now a stand alone kit with a TED (thermal electric device) like the factory uses on the front seats. No need to integrate it into the trucks electronics at all. All you need is perforated leather seats.

It's not that simple. If you use an aftermarket kit, the switch is a latching type. Meaning once it's turned on, it stays on until turned off. It can be made to turn off with ignition but then it will turn right back on again when the truck is restarted. So if you have a rear seat passenger who doesn't know this, and turns on the seat heat but then doesn't turn it off (assuming it resets itself just like all OEM setups), then your seat heater will be on every time you drive the truck until someone notices and flips the switch back. This is a pretty big deal that isn't a problem with OEM setups that reset when power is cycled.

Nah, pete has the greatest solutions and he can even recommend a service plan that will take care of all of that......o_O
