2009 Tahoe 5.3 189,000. Noticed a ticking under the hood for a little bit but never really thought about it. In the video attached below this was the ticking on a cold start. But when driving you can hear it when giving it a little gas. Especially idling, you can hear it outside. The AFM has been disabled. There is one engine light but it is for low cat efficiency. Just trying to figure out what ticking is.

Sounds to me like you have a collapsed lifter. Just like what mine sounded like in my 2013.

can you open your hood and get sound samples from different areas? It sounds “hollow”

Take the oil fill cap off and listen for the noise inside the valve cover on that side.

That sounds like something rattling more than a lifter or exhaust tick. Grab a plastic or dead blow hammer or even a piece of lumber and bump on them cats and listen for something clunking around inside. If it's bad enough, bumping with your fist will do.

Ok 2 more videos. The first one is above. Second below. It does sound like it is coming more from below the engine. Hit the cat with a mallet didn't hear/feel any bits loose.

Maybe you have a loose exhaust manifold, doesn't sound like a lifter more like an exhaust leak
