one of those states that charges property tax on vehicles?

got a distance uncle on the wife's side that retired to north Carolina and bought a viper before he realized the state did that. he wasn't happy.

didn't seem to matter thou, he ended up with like 3 more high end show cars. as they say, can't hide money.
This is why we drive older cars that are nearly fully depreciated. Where we live it's $3.57 per $100 of assessed value. On a new $80K Yukon XL Denali the taxes would be almost $2,900/year. As a kicker they send the bills out in early December because the governor is waiting for his share and doesn't want us wasting our money on presents for others or charity. They also use full NADA retail dealer value for their basis. Our 2012 is the most expensive at $428/year.

Another way to say it: I can spend $2500 on parts to keep it running and reliable, and still come out ahead on my personal property taxes vs a new one.

I lived in Dallas briefly. Way back the city had a property tax on personal vehicles, but only if they were less than 8years old. To hard to value older vehicles. Bull stuffing, it was an excuse to cover a more political agenda.

that program went the way of the dinosaur.

gotta keep mr greasy hair's pockets lined with gold

The cheapest license plate renewal I have is $178.
That is for a car that is 95 years old.
It is also what it costs to renew the reg on a 2002 Nissan that I still have.

When I picked up my Yukon last summer, Calif DMV tagged me around $1,400 for tax, license and fees.
When I registered it in Wyoming, about a month later, it was about $246 total fees and I walked out with plates in my hands. No need to wait for them to send me plates.

Absolutely insane.

Doubeleive is not going to like this..

I will most likely be driving something not electronically controlled until I meet my maker.
the future will have much more control over every single aspect of your life
it's just simple logic based on control, if you think it out why stop at just speed limits? if they did it all once people would reject it but piece meal it out and they face less resistance.
I deleted a whole bunch and will just leave it at that.
