bought a new 2022 Yukon SLT and the interior lights are weird. is it me? or broken?

hi all and glad to be part of this new forum. i love my new truck. ive driven mostly japanese SUVs (lexus gx 460) and my family has now grown. had to go with the Yukon XL 5.3. the car has its quirks but nothing beats the size and comfort.

question on interior lights if you can help me. i hit the center switch up top and the orange light comes in to keep them off. my kids sleep and since we do a lot of road travelling, upon arrival to home i like to keep them off as to not wake them up. they still come on! even if the switch has the orange light. i cant figure out the functionality of this interior light and what it is supposed to do. i noticed sometimes it stays off when i open the door to start the car and sometimes it stays on when i open the door. not sure if it makes a difference if i use the remote to unlock or if i hit the door handle switch to unlock

can someone guide me on the "rules" of this interior light on and off button?

thats the problem. the override is ON but the domelights still turn on.

I have the same issue and the manual is no help. There is no explanation as to why the lights sometimes stay off when using the overhead override switch and other times they turn on even with override enabled. No rhyme or reason as far as I can tell.

The manual might be good for certain things but there is a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense in there. I've been trying to figure out the valet lockout feature since I took delivery. It's a very useful feature (especially with the sliding center console and storage drawer) that was always so easy to access and setup from the touch screen. I can't find it anywhere in the settings on my '22 and the manual is no help at all. Anywhere valet is mentioned it indicates "go to page xx" and then when you go there it just says what valet does but not where to find the setting. I'm starting to think it doesn't exist on these model years.

Having the same issue with the dome lamp override on my 2022 Tahoe. Dealer has no idea either and thinks I'm being "picky'

On my 2021 Escalade it works just as you thought that it should, when the orange indicator light is on the interior lights do not come on. It sounds like a software bug on the 2022's to me.

I have a 2022 Yukon SLT as a work vehicle with equipment. It drives me CRAZY that often the lights do NOT go on when I'm looking for gear. This sounds like it is a factory defect. I agree that it's crazy to have paid so much for a new vehicle to have this fault.

Not a Tahoe, but a 2022 Silverado High Country. Same issue. I asked the salesman for help and it worked sitting in the parking lot, idling, opened a door, lights stayed off. But as soon as I drove home, shut it off, opened a door, lights came on.
I called the salesman, he is stumped, said ask service first time warranty work or oil change.
I had what I/they thought was a warranty issue. They ordered the part. When I made an appointment to have the part installed, I mentioned the dome light override switch problem. They said my appointment only allotted enough time for the part replacement.
It turned out the issue I thought might be warranty and they confirmed and ordered parts was for the louvers behind the grill. I was trying to figure out if I could access the tabs for the "bowtie" to remove it without removing the grill. I noticed one louver missing (top right). I asked the dealer if this was a "fail safe" if the louvers stuck or failed to open, or if my truck was missing the louver. My truck has the 3.0 diesel. They sent a tech out to confirm my louver was missing. He then checked another truck, which had all the louvers. He then said not warranty, since I may have hit a bird. Service Manager disagreed and said warranty would replace the complete louver system.
At my service appointment it was found the new part also did not have the top right louver. Then the said diesels do not have this louver, gas trucks do. Their parts man should have checked to see if gas and diesel trucks used different part numbers.
I asked if they had time to check the dome light override. They said no, they had my louvers off before they opened the box with the new louvers, then had to reassemble my truck, same amount of time used.

so frustrating! i love this truck but i can clearly see the imperfections. if this car were 60k i could get over it. not at this price point

Visited another local dealer and they gave me the same story, along with “ just press the button and turn them off every time they come on “ ‍

2022 Chevy Tahoe (z71) having these same issues - the dome lights in the entire cabin just turn on out of no where and will not turn off - I’ve tryed it all.

About to unplug the battery and give her an old fashion reset.

Anyone come up with a fix? It’s surprising that Chevy has not addressed this with a recall or software fix at this point.

For the most part mine have been obeying the off button in the overhead console. At least once I noticed that they came on when the door was opened and they were set to off. Cycling the button turned them off.

It’s definitely a software bug. It won’t be addressed with a recall. Those are for issues related to safety. It might be addressed in a future OTA update, but it seems GM is still sorting the OTA system as just recently they issued an OTA patch to prepare the system to be able to receive future updates. Supposedly the recent DRL recall can be fixed via OTA update, but I haven’t heard of anyone seeing it yet.

I’ve noticed a couple too; but there doesn’t seem to be a good Avenue to report them. Dealers do as they do (sometimes ignore) and it seems like there are a couple known ones here…I’m guessing the best way is reporting to the dealer then asking them to call the Technical Assistance Center (TAC), but this is not a real profitable thing for the dealers to do…sigh.

I’ve tried reporting them via GM customer service before; but to no avail. My gut says best way is nag your dealer to look at it seriously; then nag them to call the TAC.

Looks like GM is well aware of the issue - but does not have a fix available yet.

I wonder how many BCM software updates we will get?

What I wonder more; even though it is not relevant to this post, is if the PDI instructions are being updated to require a download to the latest calibrations for all modules before releasing the vehicle to the customer? And then, I wonder further how many dealers will actually do that.

Seems like, especially for the vehicles which sat in lots waiting on parts, they could be pretty far down level on the needed software fixes.

Good question - and I wonder if when the BCM is updated, is it one package of software that then fixes any prior issues which involved the BCM - or do they go in an manually update each issue. I was in recently for the DRL recall - I'm hoping that BCM update takes care of other issues, but I'm not sure.
