So after reading 25 pages, I have more questions, then answers.

I am looking for recommendations to purchase, please.

Would like to be able to read codes, see (and record on Win10 laptop) actual coolant temp, oil pressure & temp, transmission temp, gear range, engine rpm, cam & crank position data, spark, and/or anything else that would tell me what is wrong, when engine dies at top of long grade, won't restart, and will not set codes that dealer can see, once I get it there.

Same thing used to happen to my 03 when I first bought it. Going up steep hills it would just die while driving. No codes either. Turned out the fuel filter was clogged. On level ground it was fine, but going up hill the loose debris would clog the fuel line internally. Once the filter was replaced it hasn't done it since. Pretty sure you have the filter internally, but just something to think about. Maybe try hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and go up a hill. If the pressure drops might narrow it down for you.

The cam, crank & oil pressure sensors, alternator, and fuel pump have been replaced, and fuel rail has been heat taped. Ether in intake did not help it restart.
Still dies after long grade on hot days, won't restart for one hour, then runs like nothing wrong.
Something is heat soaking, and quitting.

Tech-2 can record all that so you can either play it back on the machine or play it back on old software if you can get it to work. But don't let that prevent you from buying one, a man cannot properly work on these things without a Tech-2.

^ you can do that stuff with hp tuners as well.
Don't need one with licenses unless you want to edit and program.

IIRC hptuners w/o credits is like $250...

It's not the easiest thing in the world to setup, you have to configure each sensor etc.
The software is also constantly updated.
If thinking about it, read some articles on hptuners site and forum.
also many youtube vids on the subject.
You can also download the software to take it for a test drive, just want the "VCM Scanner", but installs as a package with the editor.

So with Tech-2, do I need CANdi module for a 2007?
What "old" software is required to download and play on Win10 lap top?
And it sounds like USB - Serial adapter may be required?

Like I said, more questions than answers.

Thank you
