Noisy early morning transmission ?

Hi, Are all these 6 speed transmissions so noisy at first in the mornings ? Seems kinda strange to me, my 1990 Chevy Silverado 700R4 is quieter than the 2015 Tahoe !

The 6 speed transmission in my 07 Yukon XL Denali is not any more noisy at first in the mornings, than at any other time in the day. In fact, I don't notice any noise from it at all. Perhaps, it is because I have a loud exhaust system, and I'm just not hearing the noise, but I doubt it.

Other folks will chime in with their opinions and experiences.

if you let it run a few minutes before putting it in gear does it help? or does it make noise even when in park?

Ah, not really. but it does get quieter later in the day as it keeps warming up.

Never noticed any difference in any of the 6 speeds in our vehicles and we have some cold mornings here in Iowa, much like you can have.

James, what kind of noise(s)? I can't recall ever noticing mine making any kind sounds. Maybe they are drowned out by the transfer case and front differential!

Never noticed any noise in my 6 speed transmission in the cold weather when I was in NYC in November and December.

Mine makes a very soft quiet planetary whine when in 1st. I figured it was normal since I have heard other trucks I have owned do it too.

You can hear the planetary from inside? I can barely hear my wife anymore!

Yes, ever so faintly. If I have any other noise in the vehicle including the window down I cant hear it. I actually have to “listen” for it. The truck is still new to me so I hear and notice everything! Drives me nuts!

My wife’s 2018 Tahoe with a 6 speed is whining I thought it was in the front end dropped of at the dealer tonight I will let you know what we find out maybe as soon as tomorrow still under warranty

So similar to your vehicle as it warmed up noise went away
Dealer just called right front wheel bearing replaced good but truck only has 33,000 on it I had an 07 avalanche same thing cheap bearings

I just went through this recently and the dealership ended up doing a full service on the transmission after multiple visits. Eventually it was replaced under extended warranty.

Well, this I guess is just the way these are, Still a lot noisier than either of my older trucks. With higher tech you get a lot of noise ?
