Magneride front shock issues

Hi All. This is my first post, but I've been lurking a while.

The front right shock has been leaking on my 2018 Tahoe Premier. After about a week of research and confirmation from the nice folks at Arnott, I bought a pair of MR-3840s at RockAuto. Yes, I used the discount code from here(thank you). The issue started when I tried to install them. There was some interference with the back side of the shock. The best I could do was get one of the top studs into its respective hole. The top cap and spring on the MR-3840s are about an inch larger diameter than my existing strut assemblies.

Called Arnott this morning and they had never encountered this before. They are researching and will let me know.

The pic of the shock sticker is a little blurry, took it after the wheel was back on. The number is 84176632, which comes up as a discontinued spring or spring assembly.

Has anyone run into this issue before? Any solution other than rebuilding the originals?

Just for reference, the RPO codes for my front suspension are 6YR and 7YR.

Can you verify that your RPO sticker also includes the code Z95? This code, plus the 6YR and 7YR codes that you posted for your truck will be helpful information to us.

Please post the last 8 digits of your VIN, and let's see if @915_Tahoe can help us out in getting you the correct part number for your replacement shock.

Yes, Z95 - Magneride. When I first got the Tahoe, I told a friend that Magneride translates to "expensive to repair".

Last 8 = JR201080

Are you sure you have left & right correct and that your old shock has the electrical harness connector on the top?

Arnott says the MR3840 works for both right and left. https://arnott.mycarparts.com/items/MR-3840

And, I've attached a couple pics that I took before starting. You can see the connection coming from the center of the strut assembly.

I don't know...but the part number you mentioned Arnot MR3840 is for front suspension on RWD Rear wheel drive vehicles. If you have 4 wheel drive, the part number is MR5358.

Yeah, the factory strut mount has three cutaways, or flats around the circumference. Gotta guess they did that so the assembly would fit in the chassis mount. The Arnott top mount is round.

And yes, my Tahoe is 2wd.

I just took it to the dealer and paid their price. A Christian Brothers quote was quite a bit higher.
