I thought LS engines were designed, and like, to run hotter?

kinda but also there's a timing modification map vs coolent temp in the tune. so it does remove timing as Temps go up. but that said in general ls engine runs low timing and isn't very timing to hp dependant compared to say a old school Gen 1 small block. they seem to like every deg of timing you can get to them without pinning. something about head design I read.

What’s that grey fuzz on your face? Are we all getting younger these days? Ha! I bet that pup is smart as a whip. I trained two of them for one of my buddies…man they sure pick up things so much faster than some other dogs. That prey drive is almost as high as some larger breed working dogs.

You ever seen a cicada killer wasp or Asian giant hornets? They both look like something out of Jumanji. The cicada killers won’t attack humans (unless you’ve done something stupid), but the Asian giants are mean ba$****$ that attack humans and bee colonies. Although I don’t think they have killed as many bees as Monsanto/Bayer has. Luckily the hornets aren’t native to the U.S., but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are already here. Especially given in all the shipping containers that arrive daily from Chinasia.
not yet, seen some other mean nasty looking bugs when I was a kid though I used to spend a good part of my day looking for "whatever" bugs, lizards, etc
scorpions and centipedes, snakes, turtles were not unusual but when you find a big ass beetle tucked in whole piece of wood it's kinda crazy
california alligator lizards were always a cool find, kinda rare
I would be out there for miles and miles, was bored with nothing else to do

and these giant salamanders always looked weird, they were also kinda rare

Never seen either of those. Not up here in Michigan anyways.

How hot will they get in the sun?
Confirmed. Hotter than any handle I can remember.

I think it's the mass, and maybe it's black? Grab quickly and lightly.
Seriously, every metal handle I can remember was slimmer or concave, or a flap. This thing is just a heatsink brick.

Brings back memories, and now making new ones..
Can't wait for my kid to grab it after it's been in the sun. (seriously, I wanna see some reaction)
Lessons lost in new cars...

I have a black on black truck, and it gets every daylight hour of direct sunlight. It sucks.

Plastic has the benefit of not really absorbing heat.

We need pics.

Thats fair....

So heres what WAS in there. I got these because it reminded me of my NBS gauges, but never really liked it green

I found out about these when i was looking for repair options, was able to figure out there were in SOME Denali truck and SUVs but ONLY for 2007 model year. Unfortunately because I have a 2014, the boards in the gauges arent compatible. My plan was a purchase a fixed cluster and swap it, but i read too many posts about trucks newer then 07.5 frying the gauges. So i bought a cheap one off ebay, and swapped the face onto my gauges.

Im a fan of these. I didnt really like any of the aftermarket options. and the OEM face is not pleasing to me. I was going to do the base model faces, but once i found these, I liked them the most

Maybe it’s just me, but I swear these bulbs look different. Hmm? Who’s been monkeying with my fog bulbs. Sure wasn’t me, I would have replaced them both at the same time. Maybe I’ve never replaced them and it was done either by the stealership or the previous owner. Although you’d think the stealership would have used OEM parts?

Whatchutalkinbout grey? I’m only 39. Again.

My hound is actually a Bernese Mountain dog. I’ve had Aussies before, and also smart dogs.

There are a couple of Aussies in the group now. One is a tricolor. The Aussie is a big one. My Berner is small, only 110#.

Quick update on Motorad 174 thermostat. Temps not staying at 188 with heavier driving.
Yesterday in 100 degree heat I was steady at 203 for awhile on the freeway.
Today while mid 90's, I was hovering between 190-195 a lot in city.

Is that just normal operating temp under load?
Guess it's working a bit harder on the freeway, heating up despite the airflow.

I thought I could maintain cooler temps, but maybe it was cooler weather at the time...
Or I have some other issue..

The engine will only cool to the capacity of the cooling system under the current conditions. The thermostat is really only there to keep it at a minimum warm point.

I've been contemplating a phone mount for a while. Between the hoards of transplants clogging our roads, and my job change, I spend about 40 minutes driving each way to work, and have to use GPS to avoid congestion. SC just passed a hands-free law. So that was the last straw. I wasn't happy with options I saw. They either mounted the phone too low, put it in front of the windshield, or blocked a vent. So I made my own from some 14 gauge stainless steel I had leftover from another project. I used CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) to work out the shape. Here it is roughed out:

1000009873.jpg

It uses one of the dash mounting holes and an unused hole back inside the dash structure. Final shape prepped for paint:

Painted:

Installed with 17mm ball mount attached:

Trim installed:

Driver view:

This is exactly what I wanted, well inside my field of view, above the DIC, not blocking a vent, and not blocking my view through the windshield. The shifter blocks it in Park, but not while driving, which is more important. I've only driven with it a little so far. It does vibrate some on rough patches. But it's pretty solid compared to the suction cup mount my wife has in her car. The Chiwanese phone cradle even matches the matte silver and carbon fiber theme of my Yukon. We'll see how we'll it works on Monday.
