Rig looks great!

Do you do a lot of towing?

No offense intended, but personally, I don’t care for the tow mirror look.
Lol no I don’t. Well not anymore. I only bought these for a camping trip from Texas to Yellowstone starting next week. Since we are renting the trailer I wanted to make sure I could see everything I needed to. When we get back I’ll be swapping back to the normal mirrors.

Thanks to the shortage and outrageous prices here in California for catalytic converters, I decided to do the entire exhaust. Luckily my smog guy does not look underneath and with 250K miles I wasn’t about to drop almost $4k to replace both sides. Found a company in Canada that doesn’t care about CA emissions regs and shipped me 2 brands new ones for $300 shipping included. Went with a Spintech muffler and dual tip out. Will post sound clip when I can. Best setup I’ve had yet

Did some valve polishing last night.
Started with medium crossbuffs, then fine.
then broke out the wool/felt bits with polishing compound (harborfrieght).

Next i break out the air Dremel since i have much better polishing bits for that.

doing some high polish on the valve faces and stem part where it does'nt ride in the guide.
Ran the valve through the ultrasonic cleaner afterwards and i started noticing something.

on some of the valves, there is a clear gap between the stem and the tip.
like i can hook my fingernail under it.

Makes sense that they would have a hardened tip, but is this normal?

fresh cleaner still on this one, but notice the line.
One of the valves i noticed it's almost not straight...

I also used the cast iron heads that came with my vette as a gate stop for a few months.

then finally i tossed them in the garbage can.

And the pan has been "port matched" to the block for oil feedz.

did some overall flowing of all of the oil passage ways in that pan.
more of a general "looks about right" job.

garage door closed, AC on.
Waiting for it to cool down in there, and then i put the pan on!

I have one set of valves installed with the old springs, and another set with the light weight test springs installed.

Pretty much i need the actual springs in place so i can compress the new lifters to confirm pushrod length.

Hoping to get the engine ready to install for next weekend.

the heads go on afterwards, so no real hurry there...

So, ls 7 lifters.
Looks like i got a good .095 - .099 preload with 7.4in push rods.
that's with a .030 headgasket (.040 quench)

I still need to have the heads surfaced, so they might take off another .003
the head gasket i'll end up running with is the .027 (mls)

Reading online, seems the target preload is .080 - .100...

So sounds like i'll be in the ok range, or does it sound like i need a slightly sorter pushrod?

First attempt at replacement of those radiator baffles.

Used sheet aluminum.
used a screw driver to give it some stiffening lines...

I also found i had some nice reusable push lock retainers that fit the holes perfectly!

I'm sure this will make a terrible sound on the freeway, so I'll probably give it some rubber gasket or something along those lines.
