So to sum it up

•replace torque converter with something better than stock.

•tune the trans with a tuner such as black bear or yourself.

•change the trans thermostat or flip the inside piece over.

For just a stock trans this should get a pretty solid 6l80

•When you replace the torque converter, make sure the CLUTCH materials are superior to GM OE, since the clutch is THE major failure mode
•There's a lot that goes into 'Tune the trans'; most canned tunes leave out almost everything EXCEPT the blatantly obvious stuff

Yea changing the atf is something I’m sure a lot of people forget about.

The luk tc is supposed to have better clutches idk time will tell I guess but they have a good track record so far.

I’m ready to get this tune put in so I can see how the trans responds to it

The 6L80s in GMT900 SUVs (up to 2014) don't have the thermostat in the transmission oil cooler lines like the 2015+ SUVs do, so you don't need to worry about that.

Don't forget that you can keep the coolant (and therefore the engine oil & ATF) cooler by turning on the fans a bit sooner than GM OE spec.
