The passenger side is done, it took about 1/2 hour. The tape is just around the perimeter of the moldings.

Awww yeah, sooooooo clean!!
But how do YOU like it?

Looks so much cleaner. Now you just need to watch out for the idiots who swing their doors open.

I agree. With no badges, it looks better without the trim
I really like it, I’m so glad I decided to remove them. They’re in perfect shape, I think i can sell them. It really does look clean.

I have a black billet bow tie for the rear as well as the black grill on order, they’ll be here any day. Then there’s that pesky chrome strip on the esky running boards. I don’t see an easy way yet, maybe a wrap but it has no place to wrap around the edges so I might have to sand and paint. That would be meticulous.

I was wondering if you were gonna go after that chrome. Are you thinking blacked out or body color? I think it's begging to get Silver Birched!

Plastidip would probably be the easiest, quickest way to cover that chrome.

Removed the rear bow tie. I thought it was just held on with tape but I broke quite a few pieces of 30 lb test even prying a bit. I think it had 2 plastic locating pins ( there’s 2 small holes in the hatch) that I cut through along with the fact the entire emblem was taped, not just the perimeters like the side moldings. It was way more difficult. Billet will be better. ;)

The front end is done. There’s paint issues still however but the look is done.

I installed the grill yesterday. I have a black billet bow tie on order but last night I decided wth, I’ll color match the old one just to see. The new grill came with a black surround for the stock one so the CM one looks perfect. If you notice I was able to leave a black stripe around the bow tie where there’s a detail.

IMO the overall is exactly what I wanted- something that looks like a newer model SUV but with a slightly sinister look.

Rear billet bowtie is on.

I realized the fog lights were out of place and the wrong color, more of a yellow. I bought some inexpensive ones with good reviews off Amazon. I still need to aim them but they’re installed. I like them.

New windshield installed yesterday by a company called SIR Glass. Supposed to stand for Service Integrity Results. Well they missed on the integrity part. After he left I noticed the caps on the wiper arm nuts were missing so I called them and they called the tech who lied and said they were never any on it, look at the nuts they’re rusty. Wtf. I decided to go look on the ground and found one. I called them back and let them know their tech was definitely lying. Turned into a big deal over $15 in parts. Idiots. Word of mouth can kill.

Like i always say--No one cares about your car like you do. I've run into stuff like that all the time. They either break something, lose something or never complete the job. Well, at least all the a$$holes aren't in Jersey or NY.

Yup. This is why I do as much of my own work as I can. And if I outsource, it's to a person (not just a shop), whose work I know and trust. Case in point is the differential rebuild on my Suburban 3500. The guy at the 4x4 shop is an artist. When I owned an airplane, the only mechanic I trusted was a guy named Joe in Erie, Colorado. I've never met another human so meticulous and thorough. He spotted a hairline crack in a bulkhead where the elevators mounted to the tail in my 182 that took me 5 minutes of staring right at to finally see. It blew me away. A failure there would have caused loss of control in flight. He was 1.5x the price of other mechanics, but worth every penny.

Definitely don't want to get the cheapest plane mechanic.

I warned the dude at SIR Glass that I’d hurt their business in any way I could and mentioned I was a retired journeyman glazier and knew people in the glass business. He replied with a thumbs up emoji.
So I started with a 1 star review on Google that explained exactly how they screwed me over on the clear windshield and left parts off my wiper arms and the tech lied about it. The next day I got a call from the owner who asked about exactly what happened. I explained to him and he offered to replace the windshield with the correct one if I change my review afterwards, so next week after the urethane cures they will cut it out and replace it. Word of mouth kills.

He can take his emoji and shove it up his ass. I hope they fire the guy--not because of his mistake, but because he lied about it. We all make mistakes, after all we're only human, but to lie about it--that's a whole other level.
