Rear wiper and rear defroster not working... any connection?

If everything is tight. Check grounds. Backfeed on a ground can cause some fun. But agree pull the cover and inspect for sure.

Are you guys SURE the motor doesn't serve 2 functions and goes into reverse to trip/pop the glass latch?

Pretty sure the wiper motor doesn’t control the hatch. When you pull the interior cover off you’ll see the wires and mechanisms.
