I'm trying to locate the part number for the 2012 PPV rear strut. The local big box auto parts store keeps pulling up different options but it says in the description that it's not for the PPV in bold letters.

Go to RockAuto.com or GMPartsDirect.com and enter your VIN. Go to the Suspension/Shocks section and you will find the correct shock and its part number.

you don't have rear struts, you have rear shocks & springs
in the glove box there is a RPO list, that list has your suspension options, which can be referenced easily on the rockauto website
or just call any gm dealer parts department with the last 8 of your vin

The rear shocks are shorter than typical. I can look up the part number in my log book this evening.

Select your favorite aftermarket suspension vendor and get a 4" rear lowering kit with shocks and springs and get her down here closer to Earth! The typical 4" kit only lowers a PPV about 2".

Correct, I was asking if the PPV rear struts will fit my SSV without any additional hardware or adjustments... I'm looking for the slightly lowered stance in the back
I believe the springs and shocks would need to swapped, that would probably get you around 1" maybe a smidge more
once you start lowering it then you are looking at control arms and adjustable panhard bar.
these have a floating rear axle, so when you are start lowering the axle shifts, how much you lower it defines the extra parts needed.

Your RPO sticker shows the Z82 Max Trailering Package, which are heavy duty shocks and springs.

Im sorry to tell you but shocks don’t determine a vehicles height, springs do. Either coil springs, coil over springs or air springs. Not shocks- they only absorb shocks, that’s why their long name is shock absorbers. As you must know by now, you don’t have coilovers (long form is coilover shock absorbers) in the rear, you have separate coil springs and shock absorbers. In order to lower it you’ll need to swap out the springs and like mentioned, other stuff depending on how low.

It's 4wd, the PPV didn't offer that until '15 I believe
I am still confused. Just because it is a 4wd how does that make it a SSV without being a 5W4 on a 2012? Maybe someone can clarify this for me as I was told it had to be a 5W4 to be a SSV which my 2013 is which is also a Commercial?
