Hey guys. Been lurking here for a while, and this seems like a solid group with really good info! I'm on the WI/MN border, mid 40s, wife, and 2 young boys. Tahoe is a 2nd vechicle for us, replacing a rotting out '08 Ridgeline. Wife in '23 Highlander hybrid, plus a NA Miata for the occasional HPDE, weekend fun, etc. Tahoe won't get used a ton (maybe 4k-5k a year) for trips where we need the extra space, light towing (small boat, snowmobiles, utility trailer).

Always liked the GMT800 SUVs since they came out, and glad to have finally joined the party. I couldn't justify paying up for something newish and was debating between a similar vintage 4runner/gx/lx/gmt800. Been searching for a decent non rusted one for a while, and ended up pulling the trigger on Cars and Bids link. Probably way overpaid for a lot of you, but I got sick of trying to hunt one down on FB, autotempest, etc,

Anyway, been mostly here to research maintenance items as I like to do what I can on my own. Not a big mod person, audio, lifts, etc etc. More a keep it stock'ish and go "factory plus" as I find things, or stuff wears out. Seems GMT900 brakes are the way to go, e-fans, etc. I'm sure I'll find more as I do more searching on the forum.

Had to replace tires (knew this going in). Ended up with BFG Trail Terrains. Haven't put them through much of a test yet, but ride nice, quiet, and did decent in the 4" snow we had last week.

So far, lots of interior cleaning, fixing the little things as I find them (rear hatch strurts, leaking light assembly's). Was able to get drivers window switch panel working (rear windows, lock/unlock, mirrors, all intermittent) by pulling it apart and cleaning the board and contacts. Thanks to LSXMatt video for that one!!

Been looking into various unercoating options as I'd like this one to last a while. Debating between doing my own fluid film or going to a local NHOU shop to have an allegledly better product and application. Does anyone have experience here? All I know is use oil based product, and keep up on it every year or two.

I do have a random parts question. Looking for the metal snap ring that holds the center cap in place on the wheels. Does anyone have a line on where to find those (pic attached for reference)? I'm coming up empty on my searching so far. Going to attempt to clean and re-epoxy the original caps that are separating from the base. Can find replacement caps in all the usual places, but not those damn rings.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please. If we can't see it, it does not exist.

Welcome! I’ve glued (epoxy or urethane) the center cap’s plastic with success, and also have used a pearl of urethane glue to hold them on the wheel as they weaken with age. They still come off when you want them to it just keeps them from popping off while driving.

Clean the underside and get some protective coating on it. These trucks rust just hearing the word Wisconsin!

93 Z71 owner, who has done many upgrades. Next time you need tires consider buying 18 inch newer tire/wheel set off marketplace, as you need bigger rims for the bigger brakes
