PPV tire/wheel upgrade to OEM wheel package

Looking at upgrading my current 2016 aluminum 17" PPV option rims and Goodyear RSA's to some take off 2016 Denali 20" rims/tires. Any PPV owners gone down this road before me? While the TPMS gear transfer over from the 17" rim to the 20" rim? I know I will have to get my speedo recalibrated with an aftermarket tuner or a dealership computer reflash. Anything I am forgetting? Thanks for any insight.

Not completely sure but you may need to have the alignment checked also. Not sure if the tire/rim package will alter the geometry.

The TPMS will work from your original wheels, however the Denali wheels should already have TPMS from the factory that will work...also the 275/55R20 will only sit about 2" higher so the speedo shouldnt be off by much...if you go to a 275/45R20 you will basically be as the same height as your PPV wheels and the speedo shouldnt be off at all

+1 on the alignment, anytime any geometry is changed, I think its a great idea.

Wait, "aluminum 17" PPV option rims"? I'm not seeing anything in the wheel listings for Tahoes, what wheel is that?

Edit: Okay, it looks like it's P/N: 23173537, code Q5U. Got any pictures of that wheel? It's GOTTA be lighter than the steelies!

I have a set of those, they are from a 2014 Silverado. If I ever get done removing the corrosion and clear coating them they will go on my Hoe. Yep they are 17's

Thought I would update this thread. After a bunch of "just sold them" finds on The local Craigslist, I finally scored a set of BRAND NEW take off 20" chrome Denali 10 spokes with new factory Continental tires. Lucked out and the Chevy center caps from my police wheels popped right in place of the GMC caps.

Listened to your advice and had the truck aligned after upgrading to the 20" rim from the 17" rim. As suspected, the geometry did not change with a rim swap alone, and no adjustment needed.

Ride quality improved 10 fold--cop tires are very unforgiving. My PPV is no longer "pursuit certified" but it looks and drives much better.

I still need to have my computer reflashed for the new size tire. Anyone know what that costs from the dealership?

Size difference is crazy! Those tires on the 17s look way too small to be on a full size suv. Lol. The swap looks great! Those denali wheels look good, especially on your color tahoe!

Speedo is off more than I am comfortable with. Reads 5mph low at 60 and 8 mph low at 70 with the upgraded combo. Looks like most dealerships charge one hour of shop time plus a $50 download fee to reflash the computer to the new wheel size.

When I had my 2010 PPV I wanted to put my Black LTZ wheels on and went to dealership for reflash and after on hour of waiting I was told they could not get authorization to reflash for tire size on PPVs and they were locked out of ecu changes by GM just a heads up. I wound up buying a Diablo and flashing myself

I bought my 2015 PPV in 2015 as a lightly used supervisor truck. Swapped in a leather interior, center console Suburban floor stowage box. I have now got 40,000+ miles on it and am very glad I kept the GY 17"s and the Q5U's

Movign away from the GY's you are giving up everything that makes the PPV the superior handling, braking, turning and high speed long distance family cruiser compared to the rest of the GM SUV lineup.

But I guess that's the beauty of automobile ownership as a hobby, different strokes for different folks. I just would not be willing to give up the overall superior performance the shorter speed rated tires provide.

Those GY tires suck for daily driving-- there is a reason most major departments have dumped them in favor of the Firestone Firehawks. I don't plan on getting in any pursuits in the family SUV, so I don't need pursuit rates tires. It still corners and brakes just fine.

I have 43,000 miles of daily driving on the GY's (2nd set already) and the ride quality is comparable with any large high performance sedan.

The pursuit rating of the tires carries across all performance envelopes.

The GY tires simply brake, corner and handle better than none high speed rated tires. They also eat up high speed long distance cross country cruising very well.

I have to question the wisdom of downgrading the handling capability of a vehicle that has high performance built in.

Then again I see it in the Corvette community all the time. "Hey, my 450hp 3000lb sports car has a harsh ride - I wanna save $200 per tire and buy some high mileage doughnuts on 22's"

As for major departments switching from the GY RS-As, they switch to the Firehawk GT Pursuit speed rated tires, so they are not really giving up the speed rating.

Did you swap to the Firehawk GT Pursuit in 265 60 17 108V?

I bought a used Ford CVPI for the kids and upgraded the tires from the base RS-A to the RS-A Plus. Car handles great.

It was a detective's car and the first two things I did were a) remove the spot light and b) put special series license plates on it that were not used by the County. If it had had a police Interceptor badge, I would have removed that. Last thing I wanted was my kids being falsely accused of playing cop. Already had to deal with a false accusation from a cop that a kid was racing in a Grand Marquis on l-95. Fortunately, that car had already been totaled and had sitting in front of the house for six weeks as punishment. (But I digress)

I have an 11 PPV and the overall ride quality is absolute crap. Period. The RSA tires skate all over the highway, it rides like a dump truck and it bobs up and down. Maybe the 15+ PPV is engineered better. I have driven several Police package vehicles. And these PPV Tahoe's are by far the worst riding package vehicle that I have ever driven. I'm dumping the tires and putting on All terrain tires and moving up to a 70 profile instead of the stock 60, And putting in ZW7 suspension (civilian, SSV suspension) all around.

I would normally NEVER entertain the idea of removing OEM police package suspension. But I just can't deal with the ride quality and can't afford to purchase another vehicle. So for around a thousand bucks for everything including tires, I hope it's gonna be worth it. Now finding the time to do it.

The only thing I will miss is the superb cornering this vehicle has. But I prefer better overall ride quality.

I would've swapped it for the looks alone wow those 17s look so overbodied, great looking upgrade for sure!
