Hey folks,
So my new to me 04 tahoe Z71 will not play discs or dvds, and looks like an alien language on the display. I ordered:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X380BHS/Pioneer-AVH-X3800BHS.html

The salesperson told me it had a built in mic...come to find out it does not. I have to place an external mic somewhere in the truck. Now, it is VERY important I make fairly clear calls for my job. Can you guys suggest a location that I could run my mic too? I have seen lots of things on the forum but I am not sure. Someone said the A-Pillar - but I heard these are a pain to remove and does not work well.

So could you suggest some locations, please. Pictures would be awesome, but if you cannot, just post a suggested place.

Thanks!

Put it in the same place as your Onstar MIC, on the roof center console.

Mines on the A-pillar and is crystal clear. And the pillar is simple to remove. Just pull on it until the clips release. If you want to run a wire to where the OnStar mic is, you still need to pull the A-pillar p!us the visor and the overhead console. They're the same distance from your mouth btw.

Damn that's a nice HU. Wish I had seen that before I got my Alpine. Anyway, I put my remote mic in the same spot as Nathan posted. Sounds clear to everyone I call.

I have the mic for my JVC head unit run up the A-pillar, acroos the front of the headliner, and clipped onto the overhead controls, close to where the factory mic is. My reason for snaking it over is so that if my wife is in the passenger seat, she can link her phone up via Bluetooth, and have just as good clarity speaking.

Excellent guys! I would like to maybe run it over to the center console for the wife as well. How hard is this to do? I understand I just kinda yank on the a pillar, with care, until it comes loose, but how do you go across the front of the headliner? You guys are fantastic!

Here goes!!!!

So I got the stereo in. It sounds AMAZING! Waiting on my microbypass to come in. Now, what speakers do I need lol? I want to update a bit. Something with a little bass.

This is exactly what I did for my '00 Yukon XL. I removed the OnStar mike, and clipped the new in its place.

This is the same I one I bought. I haven't had time to install it yet.

What did you use to cut the bracket out?

I used a razor blade to score the area well, the sharper the better, and then I used some long needle nose pliers to just clip off the rest of the plastic at the bottom. Came off pretty easily. I am just very glad I did not have to remove the metal mount, I was not looking forward to that, plus it was there for a reason, would like to keep it :) Hope this helps.

I love the radio, its great. I still have not figured out how to get my Nexus 6P to full intergrate. I have read that you can actually have your apps, like google maps, run on it. Don't know about that though. Right now, with the help of a parking brake bypass I up and running though.

I wans't sure about removing the mic, I just unclipped it and put it in the top of the console. Seems fine. But you guys really have helped me so much and it works GREAT in that location!!!

I just got the AVH-X5800BT. I love it so far. I'm glad I have Siriusxm radio now. Although my s7 edge doesn't work with the app radio. I can get the menu to display and it exactly mimics my phone screen but as soon as I try to use an app, like waze, my screen gets scrambled on the pioneer. And I completely removed the onstar mic, disconnected the connector and put the new mic right in its old place in the overhead console.

They need to issue a firmware update for this issue. I have read about this alot. It seems to be more CrApple friendly so I dunno.
