Perfect. Thanks for the confirmation and sharing the link. That seems like a much better solution that just simply replacing the bulbs with sometimes questionable LED bulbs :)

Very welcome, always glad to help.

Finally broke down and bought the upgraded LED puddle lights I have had my eyes on for a while. I found these after upgrading the tag lights to a similar style replacement.

The camera seems to pick up a lot more light than what is visible to the naked eye so the old LED bulbs I had in the original housings seem way brighter on camera than in real life.

While the upgraded LED 194 bulbs I had in the original puddle lights were an improvement over the factory incandescent bulbs they are no where near as bright as the new ones.

Lol, no. I had my oldest son stand in front to block out the headlight because it was shining on the trailer which was washing out the picture and making it hard to see the puddle light.
Don't let Biff detract from the top notch pics you posted. They couldn't have been better. :waytogo:

I was messing around in the shop the other day and realized I had a set of those headlights you modded- the ones that are black with the clear reflector. Was aiming to throw 'em in as-is with all LEDs but can't help but to consider doing the "right thing" with a projector retrofit. I re-read through your whole saga (and was reminded of a particular member's racism :p) but never saw any full frontal finished pics. I really don't like the eyeball look, but that's what you get with projectors. Also, I'm not clear on which projectors you used. Were they the mini whatever-they're-called ones that @RichardCranium used? IIRC, his were the smallest and required the least amount of modding.

I used the Morimoto Mini H1 8.0 projectors. My only complaint is the lenses on those headlights are starting to show some yellowing already. I am thinking of baking them back open and swapping the original lenses over onto them after cleaning sanding and clear coating them with 2k clear. I know it seems counter intuitive to swap lenses that need to be cleared but the cheap headlights seem like they have micro cracking inside the clear lense as that is when I see the "yellow" looking cracks is when the headlights are actually on.

This is an older pic.

I'm hoping that, by keeping mine parked inside in the dark >90% of the time, my cheap housings will stay clear for a good long while. Thanks for the pic!

Figured I should update this thread.

Nothing terribly interesting to report.

I modified my modified oil system again.

Originally I had removed the factory oil filter and installed a remote oil filter adapter and added 2 BIG filters on a remote mount (on the inside of the passenger frame rail in front of the crossmember that goes under the oil pan) along with an aftermarket oil cooler out front.

Later on I upgraded to the Cold-Case all aluminum radiator that had an oil cooler built in but I didn't hook it up originally.

Fast forward to the present and I had, what I thought was a small leak at one of the hydraulic line fittings at the remote filter assembly. So I decided I would change out all the oil lines and add the radiator oil cooler into the mix while I was at it.

I decided to ditch the spin on remote filter adapter I had installed at the factory filter location and use the "Factory" oil cooler lines that bolt to the pan right above the filter.

I say factory because I bought the oil cooler lines and then cut the crimps where the rubber meets the aluminum tube and attached my own rubber hoses to go where I needed them to and to hopefully avoid the leaks at those junctions that everyone seems to complain about eventually.

My oil now goes through the filter at the original location, out to the 2 oversized remote mount filters, through the oil cooler in the radiator then through the aftermarket oil cooler out front and back to the engine.

3 filters and 2 oil coolers make for about a 10 quart oil change, but I also run 15k mile OCIs, while sampling oil and sending it to Blackstone for testing, without issue.

The Burb now has 333,000 miles on the original engine and transmission... until a few days ago.

I thought I had an oil leak at the rear of the oil pan but long story short it turned out to be the rear main seal leaking.

I hate leaks and I didn't have the time or place to really do the job so I farmed it out to a guy that rebuilds transmissions.

I was very conflicted about having a perfectly good transmission, with zero issues, rebuilt... but I also couldn't, in good conscience, put a transmission with 300k+ miles back in without rebuilding and upgrading it while it was already out for the rear main replacement.

The guy who Rebuilt it confirmed my suspicions and said that the transmission looked amazing inside and that the frictions and steels still looked basically new.

Oh well, I have peace of mind knowing that it is ready to go another 300k+ miles.

I also have a new converter, a Transgo HD2 "Big Box" shift kit, as well as Corvette servos installed with a Kevlar band and frictions.

Details of the shift kit...

I have been out of town for work alot so I haven't had an opportunity to drive it since the rebuild but my oldest son says it shifts amazing, firm, fast, and crisp.

I am not certain how much of that is due to the tune I already had combined with the shift kit but I think I will be quite happy.

And the best part is I no longer have an oil leak, did I mention I hate leaks?

As a follow up to my previous post about the transmission rebuild/shift kit install. The truck definitely shifts great, super fast and the truck seems a little faster over all.

Also, I followed @iamdub 's lead and bought and installed a physical ethanol content sensor on the Burb. I haven't really had any issues out of it since installing the correct O2 sensors, (previously I was having issues with it calculating the ethanol content way too high), however I can tell you that I checked the ethanol % before turning the physical sensor on in HP tuners and it was reading 14.9% and after installing the physical sensor, and turning it on in the tune, it immediately corrected to 9.4%.

I know it probably won't amount to a tremendous savings in fuel mileage but it would have to help since it is getting a more accurate reading and constantly updating instead of only recalculating after a fill up.

According to the research I did the difference in fuel mileage between E10 and E15 is only about 1-2%, but that still adds up over time I guess so I will call that a win.

I didn't take any pics as this was already pretty well documented by Dub.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to do that!

Any timeslips yet?
No sir... lol

She is a kid hauler and the closest track around here is Gainesville since they closed Jax raceway.

I bought an extension harness for a 3rd gen LS MAF sensor to plug into the VLOM wiring at the back of the engine, since I repurposed the VLOM wiring, so I didn't have to tear up the plug on the VLOM assembly in order to plug into it.

I cut one end off the extension harness and wired the power and signal for the ethanol pigtail to it and just ran the ground wire over to the ground stud on the firewall.

Parts list:

NOTISH GM E85 Plastic Flex Fuel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8B3DVZL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

ACDelco GM Genuine Parts 13507128... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZQ1G2P?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Edelbrock Russell Athletic -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZSD1G4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Less than $100 in parts.

Swapped one wire at the PCM and turned it on with HP Tuners.

Well the Phoenix Automotive Headunit arrived Thursday, May 15th, less than 2 full weeks from purchase date on the 3rd.

Got it installed today, now I have to learn how to use the stupid thing... lol

It is kind of like getting a new phone, I have to learn where everything is and how to get to it without going around my butt to get to my elbow.

Here are a few pics...

This is the before pic with the Kenwood

Here is a pic showing the original bezel next to the new one to compare the "woodgrain" match

A night pic showing the side buttons that I color matched to the rest of the buttons in the truck. There is a menu to change colors, they are RGB LED and there are many options, you can even set it to cycle through the colors based on accelerator position. @Doubeleive would have red buttons constantly... lol

This is basically the same pic but with the flash on. You can see the Android Auto navigation and the music playing at the bottom right as well as the A/C controls.
20250516_221909.jpg

Another color match comparison after install.
20250516_221921.jpg

There are so many menus and settings and layers to this thing. I expect it to take a while.to really get used to it.

I will say there are Zero installation instructions, which isn't really a big deal if you have ever installed stereos before, but there is a lot of wires and options for plugging in different harnesses and what not depending on what you truck came with.

Rear seat screen is functional but it basically just mirrors the front screen on the tiny little useless screen in the back. Today was the first time I have opened that screen in many years and probably the last time for many more... lol I just wanted to see if it worked.

Here are a couple more pics.

This is what the home screen comes with installed

Some kind of goofy looking Jeep type thing.

This is what I currently have done because I can't be driving around in my Burb with that ugly thing staring at me

I'm not sure if that is the final iteration or if I will change it up, time will tell.
