So I am going to finish painting my suburban... the hood and front fenders were painted last winter now its time to do the rest of the truck.

I am having a hard time deciding if I should keep the door moldings or take them off. I'm torn between keeping them and removing them I don't want the side of the truck to look plain without them. I would love to photoshop it all color matched but my skills are lacking and I don't think it will do it any justice.

So should it stay or go??

The badging will be coming off and If I do remove them I have the color matched / chrome LTZ door handles from GM and the painted mirror caps from the DL-3 mirrors i just picked up. If anyone has this color with the molding off please post up would love to see it!

I think color match will look nice or remove them. That's just me though. Nice wheels BTW.

Color match the mirrors too if you decide to do that and the appliques if you haven't don't those already.

Take 'em off, do the chrome handles w/ painted surrounds, add the painted mirror caps and add the little GM square on the 07+ trucks to break up the door. jmho

Take them off. It wont look plain because the NBS has that prominent crease running down the doors. I did this on my '02 and it looked nice.

Color match them and call it done. Easier to replace them than hammer out a dent.

Here's my attempt at a few things, removed molding, painted caps, painted door buckets with chrome handles, painted ends of running boards and painted plastic on front bumper

I vote for color matched side trim with the chrome strip in it

Thanks! I couldn't find any escalade vent caps so I ordered a set of street scene smooth version and plan to have them painted to match as well. I hope Its not that important for it to vent back there.

I would love to pick up a set of running boards and racks for it but there so damn expensive and hard to find I'm not sure it's gonna be worth all the trouble.

Thanks for the photoshop I need to work on my skills. I like this look, but I wont do the lower piece color matched I would probably change it to black.

I think the smooth ones sit out a little to give enough space for venting. I would suggest keeping a few bucks on hand and that way when the other stuff pops up, you can snag it at a moment's notice.

Oh thats a must! I just wish ebay would give a little alert when something pops up your looking for.

I found a few sets of running boards online but there for the shorter version and the one auction I did find online the guy wanted $400 + $200 to ship for one side! I will just have to keep checking.

haha I know posting that link made me realize I do not like how big and bulky the Escalades look.

The chrome on the molding does not look good anymore so If I was to paint match it I would need to replace the entire molding so that will be my next option if I run into issues with the smooth look.

Does anyone have part numbers for the smooth paintable mirror caps? The current one's I have keep cracking and I don't want to have the body shop continue to fix the cracks if I can just replace them with new ones.

In that last pic you posted it only looks like they added a chrome strip WITHOUT the molding. Just like the Silverados chrome strip. IMO it would look waaay cleaner without that bulky molding.
